Timing for Rutgers has worked out so far

With the UVA role being filled this afternoon and Muschamp looking like he'll land the USCe job this weekend, it seems like Rutgers is well positioned. None of the coaches linked to RU have signed elsewhere and RU is the best remaining job in college. We're positioned well and I bet we sign a new HC by Tuesday.

Conversely, things couldn't have gone worse for GS. He passed on UCF and didn't land Miami or USC. UVA got filled and the Gsmecocks will likely pass on him. Given his inferred disdain for a return to The Banks, his best chance for a P5 job is probably Syracuse this year. Next year he'll smell like warmed leftovers if he stays out another year. He may not get another P5 HC job. So his choice may be CUSE or hope for a NFL DC job.

He might be our coach. No one knows who we really want. Your hate is showing.

At this point, can only hope that Dan Mullen has serious interest in us. All other options are of lukewarm excitement level. Yeah.

I don't hate GS. I admire him. I just don't think it is wise that we should hire a coach who isn't passionate enough about the opportunity to return to the place that he built in his Top 3. USC I get, Miami I kinda get. Once that passed and you didn't see him resign, you have to move on. Coaching is a high burn-out job. If you don't REALLY want to be somewhere, you'll fail. Moreover if GS does come back, what does he tell a recruit who asks "Rutgers was 3rd or 4th on your list. Why should it be first on mine ?"

Well you sound negative about Schiano but no one really knows what going on for the search. I think we need to wait to see the decision.

Watch out I was told I'm clueless for saying GS apparently has no interest in us!

I hate to say this but with the guys being discussed by the pundits, there's absolutely no reason for this to take so long unless those guys have already told the search firm they have no interest in coaching Rutgers. It's possible that Golden, Schiano, Ash and Christobal have said no thanks.
Now the other possibility is that Rutgers has come to a decision but that the announcement is being held until the playoffs are done this Saturday.
It doesn't take the search firm that long to identify candidates. Then they approach them to see the interest by the coach and by the school. Let's hope that has already happened and that they'll be something happening by Monday-Tuesday. If it goes further than that, I'd be worried that they don't have any interest by the guys they wanted.

Except that the employed guys usually let it leak that they said no (in order to either let other teams know they are looking or to get a raise from their existing team). That hasn't happened here with Christobal, Ash, Mullen, Babers.

The school seems to have really kept a lid on this so far. A little maddening not knowing, but refreshing also. I still haven't heard from anyone credible whether the school is interested in GS or vice-versa. Anyone that thinks he would be a mistake just doesn't get it. He took us from the bowels of all college football to bowl games and B1G. Was he perfect? No. But he was pretty damn good when we needed him and IMO coaches improve with experience.

Your not considering the third option, which is that if Rutgers wanted ash, golden or cristobal they would've been here already. These guys are plan B. I have no idea where Schiano falls, but there is no way those guys have told Rutgers no thanks. They have no other option to be a P5 head coach.

I don't understand why people think so lowly of Rutgers. We could have golden in a heartbeat.

I'm starting to feel this way too. Not that any of the others can't possibly succeed here, but I was hoping for a "statement" hire of sorts.

You don't have all your facts correct. You are just making stuff up .

My money is on the Alabama DC job.

Wow. That's an astute projection. Saban worked for Belicheck. Succeeding there would position Schiano for a plum college football job, which is what I think he wants. And Bama has the $$$ to make it happen.

DC with the Dolphins is another possibility.

Maybe you have some examples of that because in the past as far as I know, you may hear about that a few months after a new coach is mentioned and not before. There are always rumors but I don't know many coaches that come out and say they turned down a job.
