1 dozen eggs

1 cup sugar

1 qt plus 1 pint half & half

1 pint whipping cream

10 oz bourbon

10 oz brandy

10 oz dark rum

Separate egg yolks and whites

Beat the egg yolks, add the sugar gradually until thickish and creamy

Add the half and half and booze and blend

Beat the egg whites until they form peaks and fold into the egg yolk mixture. In a separate bowl, beat the whipping cream until peaks form (careful not to turn the whipping cream to butter) then fold into the egg yolk/white mixture.

Concoction should be smooth looking, but thickish

Best to let it chill in the frig for a day…but it’s good whenever. Shake it up before you drank it.

We usually do spiced cider in my house.

1 gallon of apple juice

1 sliced orange

Cloves (put in a metal tea ball or stick them in the orange slices)

2 cinnamon sticks

1 cup of brown sugar

Put in crock pot to warm up

Pour in a cup

add spiced rum to taste because the kids like it too and you can't spike the whole thing.

I would love to make this because I love eggnog and I have never had anything other than the store bought stuff because my family refuses to drink it due to the raw egg.

Wow! Gonna have to try both of those. Thanks, guys.

Don't know the law now, but back in my day, an egg was considered "fresh" if it were less than 60 days old, and I don't think they even had to be refrigerated -- just kept "cool." It's a wonder anyone lived past the 60's.

Now days, I'm more concerned with e. coli on spinach and lettuce than I am salmonella in eggs. They are kept cold and aren't stored long, even with the prices jacked up like they are now. I eat a bunch of them and almost always sunny-side up. Of course, I could drop dead tomorrow.

That's why I put 12 oz of each liquor instead of 10...make sure the cooties are gone ;)

This is my grandpa's recipe. He used to make an extra batch to season for a year and drink the following Christmas. The crazy part is he kept in the refrigerator, not the freezer.

Oh wow! Was it good stuff? I'd be scared to drink that for sure, lol.
