Was just trying to look up a girl on State's soccer team and when I pulled down the 'Teams' item it show 8 sports for women and 7 for men. They shared 5 (basketball, golf, track and field, tennis, cross country), guys with 2 (football, baseball), and girls with 3 (softball, soccer, volleyball). I thought they were supposed to be equal. Am I missing something? It doesn't bother me, was just wondering.

You have to be within 3 percent of your overall student body in regards to scholarships

MSU is 53% male, 47% female, so 44 percent of our athletic scholarships must be for women's sports. The women's sports with male equals, like basketball, get more scholarships, but with football at 85, it usually takes more sports to make up that threshold.

those 85 scholarships given to football.
No other sport comes close to that amount thus more girls sports are needed to be "equal"
