I have been a long time reader, and I rarely post but this **** with the Russell love is getting ridiculous. Our offense wasn't the problem tonight. Our D and special teams was the problem. When I mean special teams, I mean our kickoff coverage. Relf is our best option right now. Deal with it. Look how Floridas offense is doing without a mobile QB. Our offense is design to fit a mobile QB not a pocket passer which Russell is. I guarantee with Russell in tonight we dont put up the points to beat UAB. We are 6-2 with a win over a physical UAB team after playing a tough, physical road game at Florida. You 17'ers need to realize that we have a competent coach now that knows what he is doing. If he thinks Russell was our best option, he would be starting but he knows his **** and that's why we are 6-2. Good night bitches.

Go Dawgs!!

I think not having Vick made us change the game plan a bit. That + coming off of the biggest win in ten years makes it a tough game. I think winning this one is huge period. As long as we continue to play to the level of the other team, we will be fine.

Not a Russell lover, but not a hater either. Can you not agree with this though, if RELF is off don't throw the ball. Relf missed how many WIDE OPEN PLAYERS TONIGHT. I counted at least 5-6 just in the second half alone. Also, UAB was playing very hard tonight. They were the ones flying to the ball, and making plays on offense. I am glad we won. It was an ugly win, but most importantly:

1. IT WAS A WIN!!!

2. IT WAS A WIN THAT MADE US BOWL ELIGBLE!!!.

Relf ran for about 50 yards-less than 3 yds per carry- and missed so many simple passes that I wouldn't be suprised if all our WR commits did a Pat Patterson. Seriously, you really think kicking five field goals against a CUSA team is acceptable offense. Relf gives us all he has, but what you see is what you get. There is no upside. Russell may not quite be ready to lead the team, but the SOB could have rung up 300 yard passing on this bunch. I don't care if Farve starts throwing the ball, but we better find a passing game after Kentucky, or it will be a long end of the season.

Balance is key. We have to run to bring the defense closer to the line. We have to pass effectively down field to keep the db honest. 60-40 run pass would be great. Right now we are so focused on the run, south panola could play d on us. Now with that being said, we are still winning even though the other team knows what's coming.

If they didn't drop so many passes and if their QB made a few more of those wide open throws, we'd be 5-3 right now.

Relf didlittle on the ground and has shown he can't consistently hit a screen pass. If we play remotely close to this level in the next game, KY will skull drag us all over that field.

Also, why in the 17 does our secondary give opposing WR's so much of a cusion, especially whenthe opposing team is killing us with the screens and short passes. We were giving them every short pass they wanted. Terrible defensive coaching.

that Tyler can hit a 17 screen pass. As could the guy in the punt pass kick contest.

Not saying that we should start Tyler, but as little as he has played, he still only has two fewer TD's and a higher rating than Relf. And one of Relf's TD passes was a lateral to Ballard.

My problem with Relf is this- I can't see him getting much better. I had heard all about how he had improved over the offseason, but I just don't see it. The stats may say that he is better, but that's because our coaches know not to ask him to do too much of what he can't do, and while it may pass the stats test, he certainly doesn't pass the smell test. Or hell, the drug test sometimes.

I don't know what will happen next year, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if Tyler is our QB by the end of the year next year. I have to believe that Dan is going to tire of Relf's limitations at some point before long.

While Relf is not our savior or the end all be all answer...he is still our best option. Russel is good BUT HE IS NO WHERE CLOSE TO BEING READY FOR GAME ACTION!. Relf can't hit the broad side of a barn. But Russel still can't read a defense. And that causes bigger problems (turnovers and busted plays) than Relf throwing to Chad's feet on 1st and ten. I still believe in Russell but I know that he needs another off season and spring practice to really make himself a legitimate option at QB.

for us to take it to the next level, you are out of your freaking mind if you think that Russell as the primary QB (Relf as a change of pace) is not our best option to get there.

He came in against LSU and drove us right down the field for a touchdown. Then our OL and RB's decided to stop blocking for him, resulting in his turnovers. He's made some mistakes this season (don't forget he's a RS freshman) but he's proven to be a much better passer than Relf. The only thing about Russell that bothers me is that he underthrows his deep passes more times than not.

Relf is option #1 because he's been able to make plays with his legs. However, the last two games he hasn't done much at all with his legs. I'm fine with giving Russell a chance, if Relf continues to be ineffective rushing.

Mullen is trying to surround him with talented receivers (Brassell,Morrow, Singleton, etc.). As soon as we get these SEC sized receivers into the fold, then Russell should be ready to take the reigns. Right now we have undersized receivers(except C. Smith) all over the place. We're playing the hand we've been dealt. And somehow winning with it. I have confidence that Mullen will adapt the offense to our talent. It looks like we are bringing in some offensive firepower in this year's class.

Not a "technical" student of the game, but how damn long does it take a Parade AA to learn to read defenses. He has been here going on 2 years. To me....something just isn't right here.

Russell threw 5 picks as we got away from the run and we got skull 17ed. If running the ball is what we have to do to win then 17 it do it. Who cares that we're 1 dimensional if we continue to win. So what if Relf misses some easy passes, he runs the zone read very well and wins with his legs and not his arm.

It takes a while most of the time unless the QB has unbelievable talent around him, which we don't. The best college QB in this state in the lastcouple of decades wasn't ready to play when he was a redshirt freshman.Unless you think Russell is more talented and will be a better college QB than Eli Manning, you may have to wait another year or so. Some of the best colleget QB's in the history of football havetake a few years before they were readyto play.

Tyler had 3 pics and Relf had 2 pics in that game.

if our wide receivers could catch, or if broomfield makes the pic 6, or if relf scrambles like he does now we beat auburn, but no one is mentioning that when auburn is in the top 3 and newton is a leading heisman candidate. all that matters is they won that one just like all that matters is we won last nite. good teams win.
