According to Section 3.3.6 of the NCHSAA handbook: “Disrespectfully addressing an official or physically contacting an official is subject to automatic expulsion and can result in ineligibility for the remainder of a career.”
Shouldn't be subject to but automatic expulsion and result in ineligibility for hitting an official ! ! !

Those players should have to sit out any and every sport until they leave their respective school.
Dressing facilities were inhabitable and they came dressed to game and the Smith bus had all the officials blocked in, so they were subjected to some abuse as they were loading bus.

And some people talk about having 1A state championship at Simeon with inhabitable dressing facilities.

That was a terrible incident that should have NEVER occurred and is NEVER acceptable. Period. No player or coach should ever verbally or physically abuse any official of any game. Coaches should be, and generally are, given a little latitude in strongly disagreeing with officials during games and being able to voice their opinion to them in a "sideline meeting" and that should absolutely be ok as long as it doesn't become personally verbally or physically abusive.

However to say that no one should criticize officials simply because they are officials is absolutely absurd. They are not above criticism, especially when they are as bad as some I've personally seen this year and obviously it's not just me.

With that said officials should be protected at all times before and after games by police. We know the vast majority of them work hard and do the best they can, but there are times that they do need to be called out.

Didn’t really mean criticism is not ok. Always tried to listen head coach. Do we miss them or kick them, absolutely.
Thanks for the good words.

I agree with 90 percent of what you posted above. Still not sure why people feel officials need to be called out?
Aren’t coaches yelling at them? Aren’t players, especially captains in football, allowed to object to a call? Never understood why fans, at least forty yards away think their protests will make a difference. Think basically it makes them feel better? Are officials perfect? Definitely not. Do they miss calls? Oh yeah. Is screaming, often obscenely, at them helpful? Not really sure?
And I think fans are often a wee bit biased. I am guilty as well. Some day, and hopefully I’ll be gone by then, I figure we will all watch a broadcast of high school games on TVs. No fans allowed in the games. Due to not being able to provide for the safety of the officials.
Remember, without officials, it would just be a bunch of teenagers running around on a pretty field like a PE class…

I was at Ashe county Middle school last week doing volleyball and the gym was dark and the lines were faint. I could hardly see the line right under the stand. If you don’t know in MS Volleyball the line judges are MS kids. Well there was an older gentleman high up in the bleachers yelling at the line opposite side that the ball was in. Telling me I have to over rule her. I could hardly see her must less see the line. Never stops, no matter what level or the conditions that you are working under.

Look, they have a job you couldn’t pay me to do. They are human, they can only call it like they see it. I know mistakes are made- I have a friend that has worked as an official for years, he is really good and does a great job. If you feel one or two questionable calls cost your team the whole game, you are wrong. A losing team has already lost the game in several small ways long before those calls. Sometimes teams get lucky and win when they were obviously not the best team, and good teams have bad nights too-but most of the time, the better team finds a way to win- it doesn’t happen by a couple bad calls. Whether I like it or not- truth is, it’s just a game, crap happens, nothing is perfect- we all do our best but we can’t control everything. I have been a line judge for high school and college sports and sometimes you have to make a gut call. You can’t say- I don’t know- you have to call the ball in or out. I know I’ve missed some but- I do my best. And fans love you or hate you depending on how it affects them.
