you guys need a reality check. The reason Ole Miss is having the problems they are now isbecause they did the exact same thing to us. They got a little success, thought they were better than us and could just count us out, and now look at where they are compared to us. They finished behind us in recruiting, have lost 3 Egg Bowls, have won 6 games in two years and have lost 13 SEC games in a row.Their program and fan base thought they had become bigger than this state,it cost them, and they are paying for it now.

The minute you begin to dismiss your true rival is the minute you lose perspective on your program. Youbuild your program by beating out your rival for prospects and by beating them on the field. We beat Ole Miss on most of the important in state guys and look what it did to their class. We have to always think about Ole Miss because they are in the same conference and divisionand will compete with us for most of the top players in our state that we need tobuild the foundation ofour program. That's just my two cents.

Houston Nutt being a ****** coach who quit on us and hired a staff of retreads definitely had nothing to do with it. It's because we didn't respect MSU enough.

And a poorly conducted coaching search. I highly doubt my or anyone else's comments have much effect. But if you want to make fun of someone because its funny then go ahead, won't bother me. Just be witty about it.

I mean after he'd been unfairly railroaded out of Arkansas despite all his success there and taken Mississippi to their best back-to-back seasons in FIFTY YEARS! Do coaches really go from being that great to being that ****** so quickly?

Nobody, not even Freezus himself, is going to be able to build them into a consistent power. Dude took them as high as they've been since Vaught. Given another year or two he would have probably had them competitive again. He's a hell of a gameday coach. He followed the same pattern at Arkansas. Only reason his tenure looks bad up there is because he was followed up by one of the best coaches there is.<div>
</div><div>Nutt really, I mean, REALLY, %*%$%* up by losing to Jax State. If he wins that game things are much different. Probably go at the minimum 6-6 that year. And ****, he was damn close to knocking off BYU this year and that would have made this season turn out much better.</div><div>
</div><div>See, that's how thin the line between success and failure really is. All us Joe Blow fans huff and puff but the **** is cutthroat.</div>

There's almost no limit to how much you can suck when you stop trying. Once the seniors graduated in 2008 and everyone had enjoyed a year of having fun instead of working their asses off under O, there was nobody to lead the team and make sure they were ready to go. It's really pretty simple.

To me that makes no sense. Did you have bad decisions from up top? Absolutely. But most of your fan base was ok with everything that happened.

Everyone but you guys thought the Nutt hire was terrible, and couldn't see how bad of a coach he really was. Everyone but you guys could see the signs of desperation when you signed a class of 37 people. Or when Nutt got Masoli, everyone said Nutt was doing the best thing for the program. The signs were there, yet you continued to tell everyone else y'all would soon beheaded for Atlanta and would always better than MSU because you could outrecruit us.

Firing Cutcliffe was dumb, hiring Ogeron was dumb, paying Nutt millions he didn't deserve was dumb, and firing Nutt yet letting him coach out the season was a collosal failure. I really don't think their problems have anything to do with us.

And the Jury is forming an opinion on Freeze right now.

Even in your post above you list off numerous reasons why Nutt and his staff were failures, absolutely none of which had to do with MSU.

You think we were ok with signing Masoli because of MSU? Are you that 17ing stupid? You think we ignored every problem with the program (that you think everyone ignored that is a discussion for another day) simply because Nutt beat MSU in 2008?

Now I get it. I just ignore your past track record when you make any statements about a coach. Cutcliffe sucked (even though his record is much better than any coach you've had since Vaught and he somehow left you a good number of NFL players even though he couldn't recruit). The whole SEC was scared of Orgeron and the program he was going to put together at Mississippi. Then Orgeron was a lunatic and a terrible coach. Then Nutt was a great coach who absolutely did not win with Orgeron's players dammit. Then Nutt completely sucked. Now Bucky is a great coach and is going to turn it around. Makes perfect sense.</p>

you failed to promote change when it was needed. You guys forgot about us. Did that affect every decision you made? No. But it sure as hell made life for you guys a lot harder, and until your fan base realizes that, you won't ever change. The minute we placed the emphasis on doing everything better than Ole Miss, our program improved drastically. Until you and your fan base return the favor, you will stay in the cellar.

and everyone else that obsesses about Ole Miss are afraid that if you don't MSU will revert back to being the ****** team from 2001-till Mullen. You think because he has a TSUN countdown clock and fancy billboards and talk **** about Ole Miss that you should too every chance you get or we will suck again. You are insecure and feel its inevitable that we will be bad again. It screams of INSECURITY. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Ole 17ing Miss. We play them the same amount of times every year as LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and Kentucky. We have owned Kentucky in football lately but there is probably less than 100 posts the entire 17ing year about UK football. I realize that OM is 90 miles from MSU so it's inevitable that they will be brought up. I'm fine with the occasional posting but its been beyond ridiculous. 30-40% of the posts on this MSU message board are related to OM. Including this one. Just chill the 17 out with it is all I'm asking for. Bama and USM are just as close to State in distance and recruit the same players too but nobody posts about their football teams even a fraction of the amount OM is brought up. Change this up a little please, can we get some Bama, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, aTm, Kentucky fans in here to ridicule please instead of the same 20 OM fans or something.

Jesus Christ. You can say that our coach sucked, or AD was incompetent and hired awful people, and our fanbase had unrealistic expectations. What I continue to fail to see is what any of that has to do with MSU.

We failed to promote change because our fanbase and athletic office is full goddamn morons who have never considered hiring somebody based on merit. That has nothing to do with MSU.

So by the associative property, you are saying USM and Alabama recruit the same players? That makes you an idiot. We don't recruit against Alabama. You see us sweating out any Top 50 5 star recruits today? I don't think so. Alabama finished in the Top 3 in every single recruiting service. We didn't.

We aren't a national team, and we are nowhere close to Alabama as a program. We are the 2nd smallest school in the SEC, and we recruit against Ole Miss. Like it or not, that is what we are right now. We can aim to be like Auburn and SC, but the only way we can do that is to dominate our state and beat Ole Miss in every aspect. You may think we can talk big now because we've gone to two bowl games, butright now we can't hold Alabama's jock strap. Until you get your head out of the clouds and realize Mullen and staff place an emphasis on OM for a reason, you will suffer as an MSU fan.

the bear here. They suck because of poor leadership. They don't suck because of "not taking the rivalry serious.". That is crazy.

Even your fellow Bulldogs think so.

You seem to think that just because we're rivals every single bit of success or failure either of us experiences is a direct result of the other team, and that's simply stupid.

how Alabama was from 1997-2006? Only since they sold their soul and gave Saban 35 million dollars have they become so dominate again. The team MSU has right now would compete very well with those teams from 97-2006. You use the athletic budget as an excuse to be mediocre. MSU has plenty of money thanks to ESPN and the SEC.

you make this sentence is astounding.

We can aim to be like Auburn and SC, but the only way we can do that is to dominate our state and beat Ole Miss in every aspect.

The world does not stop and start at beating the instate rival. In 2009 you beat us in Starkville. We did NOT "Respect The Rivalry" that year. You stayed home because you had a losing record. We went back to the Cotton Bowl.

ETA: You get like Auburn and SC buy hiring good coaches, recruiting well, and having stable leadership in the athletic office that raises money and builds facilities. It's not a big secret. It's hard to do, but it's not a secret. Oregon became a top program thanks to good coaches and a shitload of Nike money. "Respecting The Rivalry" helps with fan enthusiasm, but that's about it.

I don't thinkwe had everything to do with where y'all are now. Obviously you guys had problems at the top. That is not in dispute. But I think we played some part.

I think you guys had a part in us changing our entire program. You guys looked poised to move way past us, and we fundamentally changed everything we were doing at the time. I think a lot of that was in response to what you guyswere doing. We found a guy that would push us past our rival, and I feel our administration made that decision because there wasn't enough emphasis on beating you guys in every aspect.

And we have to beat you guys in recruiting for us to do that. We can't go to FL or GA, or TNand take a bunch of highly rated kids like Auburn can.Auburn signed as many out of state guys as we signed in state. We have to beat you guys in state for the best talent, and supplement that with a few out of statein order for us to put the product on the field that teams like Auburn and SC do every week.

You seem to think that MSU's only goal every year should be to beat Ole Miss; that as long as you're beating Ole Miss you've done enough to call it success. At some point, if your program is going to grow, you'll have to expand past that. By your argument, that wouldn't be respecting the rivalry, and would cause State to fall back.

I never said we were mediocre, but thinking we can go toe to toe with Alabama in football is ridiculous. Thanks to ESPN and the SEC, all the other schools got a ton of money too. The money from ESPN and the SEC put us no closer to the other teams in the SEC in terms of how we are monetarily. We are last in the SEC.

Saban is a great coach, but you don't think having the biggest athletic budget in the SEC helps him do his job just a bit better? According to Forbes for the 2009 season, Alabama spent 31.1 million dollars on football alone. We spent 9.95 million. How much better would we be in football if we could spend an extra 22 million dollars. Yeah, money has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Using a bit of logical tweaks... it kind of makes sense. The level of competition he used was about the mid-tier of SEC competition in USCe and Auburn. If you use deductive reasoning and assume that if we dominate the rivalry, we can dominate the state in recruits. If we're able to dominate the state in recruits then that should yield better talent. If we have better talent, then hopefully our coaching can use said talent to go up a level or 2.<div>
</div><div>With that said... I do not agree with the overall stance that you guys suck because you forgot about us. I was hoping there was some sarcasm in there, but I have yet to find any.</div>

But we have to build the foundation. We are still building it right now, and animportant part of that isto beat OM every year. That will never change under Mullen. Recruits notice that, and it is important to some of them.

We can always add to our list of things to do every year. We don'tjust point to OM and say let's just get that and call it a day. We point to defending home turf, we point to getting to a bowl game, and we point to doing whatever we can to get to Atlanta. We don't just concentrate on you guys, but in terms of us getting some of the players we needto beat good teams consistently, it does depend on us beating you on the field and in recruiting.

If one team could everdominate the other for in state recruits 3 or 4 years in a row, they would have a great foundation of talent to compete with the rest of the SEC.

The jury should give Freeze a couple years to see what he's got in him. I honestly expect him to a more competent Croom, but that's just me. The rest though, since firing Cutcliffe, is dead on.

They decided that they were better than Cut and cast him aside after one bad season. Sure they wound up with a couple of good seasons in the transition between a horrible HC that could recruit and a decent coach that couldn't recruit but in the end it cost them as they fell and fell HARD. Kind of reminds me of those in our camp that want to get rid of stans.

The Rebs came in ranked number 4 in the nation. They were quickly smacked back to reality. Everybody--well, everybody not living in Oxford, MS at least--knew that that ranking was a joke. Ole Miss had done absolutely nothing to deserve it. They got there because teams ahead of them lost. They faltered then. They recovered somewhat in the middle of the season and went on to get a win over LSU the week before they played us. So, they were flying pretty high as they headed into DWS that year. Once again, they were smacked back to reality.

The point is this: Their troubles started long before we bested them in the Egg Bowl. It became apparent that Nutt had no clue to how to actually gameplan beyond one or two teams a year even a little. When he couldn't win on emotion from being an underdog, he couldn't win period. That loss to State had little to do with their current troubles. They did beat Oklahoma State mere weeks after that if you recall.
