I agree he is not SEC quality but he is a ball player, just overmatched.

we appreciate the effort he gives. He goes all out but he is not an SEC caliber player. Hate that he is hurt and his career might have to end this way.

And apparently, he is our best choice at safety if he starts.

In 07 he knocked the living crap out of a UT WR near the goal line and got called for a personal foul.

In 08 he blew up a guy from La Tech, and again got a personal foul.

They were both pretty vicious hits.

to throw it up 40 yds in the air like a punt... and when Smith jumps 2 seconds early and falls on his *** I wait for the ball to fall in my arms and high step into the end zone Unmolested touchdown for Requiem For A Bulldog.

we don't play football. we don't need to be hit by Smith. Smith showing one of us up doesn't help MSU one bit.

i like the effort the guy puts forth. the problem is a team full of Rudys will not win football games very often and they sure as hell won't win it in the SEC.

i hope he isn't hurt but at the same time i can still criticize his play. this is a sports message board afterall.

I never said that admired him quitting.

Look, I think we can agree that Zach has played hard and gives his best on the football field. He just hasn't gotten it done in coverage and has missed some tackles. Some of us think it is because he doesn't have the ability. Maybe Zach agrees. Who knows? Who are we to judge if he decides to step aside for that reason?

I know some of you guys think it is "cool" to be negative and to bash people on the internet. It's not. It is very cowardly and lame. Especially, when that player has given all he has to the school you claim to love.

I don't think Zach should quit. I wouldn't quit the team if I were in his situation - concussion or no concussion. But, to know that you've given your best and can't get it done ... and have to endure the criticism of cowardly stupid people ... I can understand if he made that choice. That's all I'm saying. I wouldn't do it, but I understand.

that he isn't getting the job done so that i am not a coward today.

good god man. your and idiot.

message boards intended for sports sometimes actually discuss sports (see NAFOOM for the "sometimes" issue). when you discuss sports it usually includes the actions of players. the actions of players are directly related to their size, effort, and ability. ZS has no one on here downplaying his effort. the other two are in question for the SEC. get over yourself.

Zach played a big role in winning the Egg Bowl in 2007. Ole Miss had third and 10 with about 3 minutes left up 14-7 and we had just one timeout. If they get a first down, they can run out most of the rest of the clock. Shaeffer hits a guy over the middle about 20 yards down the field but Smith puts a big lick on him dislodging the ball, incomplete pass. Next play is the Pegues punt return that ties the game. So yes, Zach has done some good things for MSU and laid some big hits on people. Sad to see his career end this way if true.

Yeah, I dont really remember him doing much in that game. The only big hit in that game was Chaney's. Lets quit taking up for Zack Smith all of sudden. He is a sub par safety at best.</p>

I'm pretty damn sure it was Pegues that made that hit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
