I know we are one spot ahead of them.. but take a look at Dukes projected starting 5 production from last season, and compare it to ours.
And then remember that we go 10 deep and aren't relying on freshman Cayden Boozer or a borderline walk on as our 6th man.

I agree ... Duke's ranking is hard to justify.

And we do have a GREAT portal class.
I think we will definitely crack the top 25 next season.
Because we have no proven shooters in our starting lineup...proven shooters meaning 37% plus behind the arc. We will probably have like the 35th-40th best offense and around 10th-15th best defense.
To be honest I think Houston and Purdue are rightfully 1 and 2. Most of 3-10 are guesswork. If we play the way I think we will, I’m expecting an elite eight at minimum, be top 10 all year and absolutely trash a lot of teams. If pope gets these cats on the same page, look out.

Historically, he's been great with the draft but absolutely terrible with the preseason rankings.

That ranking wasnt the interesting part for me. It is that he has four Portallers. RP was always seemingly against the new reality. But he embraced the 3 before others. He's embracing the portal now. That is interesting.
I think 10th is fine. Possibly a touch higher. It’s hard to say top 3 like some people on here seem to think. Even with Oweh back . We don’t have any elite shooters. And who knows if JQ will play or how good he’ll be. But we are definitely going to be better than last year. And we will be good enough to compete with the best
I think we are third best team IMO. A lot of people who rank are going to value big names over fit and depth. I think it’s gonna be a fun one.

The elite shooter omission may come back to haunt us or Johnson or chandler could go off and fill it. We ll see but I expect we will have to earn respect. I doubt the top or second best team in the sec is only ranked at 9.
I mean it’s fine to put Purdue at 1 but there is no way they are winning the title. Smith and the big are good college players, but let’s be real. Why would Houston not be ahead of them.
UL has a weak front court and zero depth in that area. Way too high.

I was really struggling with that word, Portallers, especially as you capitalized it. I was thinking a family of quadruplets and then it came to me.
You get the sense they're including Oweh while not really including Oweh, to fit a narrative. Our best player last year(from a production standpoint), is slated to return, from a top10 team, that's bringing in a top5 recruiting class and a top3 portal class.. not a single other team hits all 3 of those.
Feels to me like they're giving UK a worst-case-scenario ranking (IF JQ comes back? Lol) and everyone else gets the optimistic ranking.

A lot of yall are setting yourself up for disappointment thinking this is a top 1-5 roster. There’s a big hole at SG. It’s missing a big shooter/go to scorer.
Can we please quit the hand wringing that we don't have any shooters. Pope's teams have always been some of the best in nation with scoring. We were 7th last year I think with guys on the injury list constantly.
This year we have some real athletes and plenty of guys who can score and shoot. Scoring won't be an issue. Last year all the comments were we don't have athleticism, rebounding and defense. That has all been addressed now folks are acting like we won't break 60 a game .
