I wish signing day was soon and these guys could go ahead and put their signatures down. They are going to be a badass recruiting class if it comes through. I like how the clarionledger is posting all the guys committed to state. what is it now? 4 out of 6? or 3 out of 6 they have put out are committed to state?

And I wish they'd have an early signing period in August for this reason. I feel like too many guys commit just to reserve a spot, and then they end up decommitting and signing somewhere else. If you had a signing period around the first week of August or the last week in July, you wouldn't see guys making commitments early in the process unless they were sure.

And if they weren't 100%, you'd find out by August that they were just committed to save a spot, because they wouldn't sign.

There are certain players every year that know for sure where they are going early in the process. For both the sake of the coaches and the players, it would pay for them to be able to get recruiting over before their senior season. That's just my opinion, and I don't see it happening that way anytime soon.

This is why Croom MUST come thru with a decent season.

If we go backwards, it will be bye -bye commits.

Lots can happen in one's senior season. An unknown may emerge, while a highly-rated senior may get injured/arrested or there's a new coaching staff at the University. It's just that we at STate and OM would like an early period because we're so afraid the bigger schools will snap up our best recruits.

If anything, they should move signing day to the end of the school year, in late May. That way, the coaches can find out just who'll be eligible to attend school, who passed their ACT/SAT's, who'll give the team 100% in the off-season, etc.

If anything it would help Msu, a couple of things, one we seem to recruit the "diamonds in the rough" or the so call 2 and 3 star players. If we had a earlier recruiting date like the early days (60's and 70's) when you signed a letter of intent in Dec you want lose as many players cause the so called big time schools want have time to zoom in on the players. Mostly when we lose one of our players late it's because the big boys haven't filled there signees with 4's and 5's so they go after players who we consider "diamonds". Also, back in the 60's and 70's if you signed a letter of intent (SEC) you could still sign with an outside school a National letter of intent. This is what happened to Msu with Hugh Green and a running back from the coast named Rooster Jones (thanks Jackie), as they signed with Msu the SEC letter of intent but signed later the national letter with Pitt. The SEC letter of intent just protects the signees from signing with a "sister" school. Also, recruits now have been evaluated long before there senior season and the not so high rated players have time to show there stuff and be signed in the early time period. Waiting to sign in Feb is just way to long and there is more cheating going on in Jan and Feb than any other time frame, if it was moved up the players would be into there season and spend less time with recruiters., I know as I went thru this process way back.

Why should we recruit for LSU, USC, Notre Dame, and etc.? Make them go out and find the diamonds in the rough themselves.

I could see some problems with an early signing period, but in the end, I think what it would do is it would force both coaches and players to start taking the idea of offers/commitments more seriously. Coaches would make fewer early offers knowing that they may want to wait to see a guy play his senior year before committing 100% to an offer. A lot of coaches make offers to guys that they may not be 100% sure about solely to be sure they are in the boat with the player just in case. If they later re-evaluate and determine they aren't sure about the player, they can either slow play him or remove the offer.

An early signing period would eliminate a coach's need/ability to throw out offers to guys they aren't 100% set on. At the same time, you wouldn't see guys like Robert Elliott making a commitment so early in the process, and even if a player like that chose to commit early, you'd find out that it wasn't a serious commitment the minute they chose not to sign during the early period. It's like when Scotty Hopson chose not to sign with MSU during the early period. When he did that, you found out that he wasn't serious about his commitment. To me, that's a good thing for coaches, because they then know that they have to treat that player as if he's not committed. Therefore, it leaves the coaches time to start looking at other prospects at that position, while also knowing that if they want that particular prospect, they better continue to recruit him as if he's not committed.

I think you would see the so called 4 or 5 star players committing earlier, the so called 2 or 3 rated players are gonna commit early anyway cause they don't want to lose what they can get as they aren't recruited as hard.

The recruiting class is starting to look so strong that it won't matter what we do this season. If we have a bad year, they will think they can turn it around.
