I only looked back to 1955, but 2001 is the only time we have beaten Ole Miss in a year where we finished with a losing record and they finished with a winning record.

I would imagine looking back over most rivalry games, when one team has a winning record and the other has a losing record, the odds probably favor the team with the better record. That usually means that team is a better team.

emotions of a game will only get you so far, then you actually have to be better than the other team to win. In this situation I think y'all aren't too far away from us in talent...especially if McCluster goes down. Anything can happen. Dixon could cut loose for his last game.

to find the word "unusual" in my post. I said it was a fun fact, and it has bearing on this year's game.

They lost 20-17 to The Mississippi State University, then 14-7 to Tulsa in the Bluebonnett Bowl....all after being consensus #1 to start the season.

I really don't think State was a horrible team in 2001. It just seemed like every break that went for you in 1999 went against you that year. Wasn't Florida the only team that absolutely destroyed you?

I believe we led 4 games at some point in the 4th quarter that year and lost---BYU, Bama, Auburn and Ark.

We had Auburn beat until whatshisface (Duval?) hit like a 93-yard FG into a 30mph wind to beat us. The BYU game was the infamous MWC Ref Game. And BYU was undefeated, as I recall.

Turning point was a blocked punt. They brought their out-guys in for a block. We left our gunners out there and looked like an idiot with his pants down. I was also at the Bama game. We hung in there well against a rebuilding Bama squad. Fant was the best QB we had this decade.

we were up with under 2 to play and Matt Jones went 80 yards in about 40 seconds, mostly running the ball.

Honestly, to date that is the last time I have ever seen a MSU QB play competently. Pitiful.

so beating them with a losing record when they have a winning record is a once every thirty years phenomenon.

Thank you Kevin Fant.

Thank you Hoyle Granger.

I also think that out of those four games we had eight missed field goals and lost all those game by three or less.

They showed Miss State with Ole Miss record and Ole Miss with Miss State record all night. The football gods were a little confused.
