Mississippi State's Hughes suspended

What the 17???

EDIT: Somehow I missed that we had a backup LB named Chris Hughes. Between Jamon Hughes a few years ago and bad mofo Chris White, I admit to temporary insanity and thought we had a kick-*** starting middle linebacker suspended by the SEC office. I was about to go postal, but then I got better.

suspension for the first half, but no mention of the length of Hughes's. Any idea?

Where was this rule when Florida's d-end stuck the top of his helmet into Relf's chin well after he released the ball. That cheap shot knocked him out the game for a few plays.</p>

don't get suspended for one second for blatant hitswhich sole purpose is the injuring of opposing players. I also didn't realize the SECenforced conference rules in OOC games, thought that fell to the NCAA?

The SEC man is just keeping MSU us down</p>

We're gonna need a Youtube upload of the head-to-head contact hit please. Maybe even a comparison between that play and the hits on Relf and Cox.

Locke's blog mentions some confusion about it in the play-by-play, but apparently it's at the 0:26 mark in the 2nd quarter.

Was just on AM 730 in Memphis and they discussed the hit. He quoted Hughes as saying that "it was a silly mistake that I shouldn't have made."

LSU head-hunts mercilessly in every game we play against them. They went head-2-head on two of our guys this year, including Relf.

this takes the concept of "Monday morning quarterbacking" to the extreme. I never expected a retroactive screwing from the refs. Keep blowing my mind there, fellas.<div>
</div><div>(of course, if this was some incredible soul-rattling spear that I just didn't see and the announcers didn't feel necessary to point out, I take it back.)</div>

everybody above has alluded to all the reasons why, and there's about a thousand more examples. I swear I have no reason not to want to crotch-kick Mike Slive.

The SEC will suspend Relf for getting in the Florida player's way.

it has to be mike slive. If some alabama player would have made that hit, he wouldnt have even thought about suspending him

Unfortunately, I don't know how to convert from DVR to YouTube, BUT:<div>
</div><div>The play/hit at 00:26 of the second quarter was the Banks hit on the receiver out of bounds. Not sure if that's the hit they're trying to punish us for, but if it was, they clearly punished the wrong guy (although that could be good for us).</div><div>
</div><div>Looking at the rest of the play as best I could on ESPNU's broadcast, I didn't see ANY hit that looked like it was helmet-to-helmet, or blow to the head.</div><div>
</div><div>I have NO IDEA what they saw or what they suspended Hughes for.</div>

I was just about to say, if he had immediately ran over and helmet to helmet hit Relf he would have gotten off scott free.

I got a screen grab of what I think is right before the hit:
