Best baseball is probably an old Clemente card or some early 60 Mantle cards (lucky show box I found at my grandparent that belonged to my dad).

1. Joe Torre 1970 w/ the Cards
2. Bill Russell 1970 (actually listed as an outfielder instead of SS)
3. Leo Durocher 1970 (Cubs Mgr)
4. Lou Pinella 1970 (outfielder Royals)
5. I guess the most valuable would be a Steve Carlton from 1970 also (last time I checked years ago it was anyway)

unsigned probably Griffey Jr. rookie card. McGuire and Sosa rook cards probably aren't worth as much anymore.

I got it signed when he spoke at my church. Years after his retirement, his legs were still freakin huge. Great guy, phenomenal athlete.

not sure which one, butIown nearly every one ever known to man.

Outside of that my best at one time or another were Ryan Sandberg 83 topps, Fred McGriff 86 Dunruss, & Ken Griffey 89 Fleer... yeah, my collection sucks.

....because that's 95% of my "collection" and the most valuable card out of any of them probably isn't worth more than 50 cents.

One was I reached 7th grade and the other was that upper deck changed the market and it just got too expensive.

Gone were the days of 50 cent packs with hard *** gum.

The prices did get high, but even worse was the ridiculous amount of special sets. Go look at a beckett - 50 years are covered in a few pages, then the rest of the magazine covers the last 10-15 years. It used to be possible to collect almost every card of a certain player -there weren't too many DarrylStrawberry or DocGooden cards that I didn't have. You only had a handful to get every year. Now you'd probaby have to buy about 25 Pujols or A-Rods every year. Thats more of a chore than a hobby.</p>

Same reasons here. In 89 and before you could grab two packs for a buck and have 30 cards. After Upper Deck hit the market you could spend two bucks and get like 5 cards.<div>
</div><div>20 bucks would buy you a complete set of 89 topps. 20 bucks wouldnt get you a minor subset of the upper deck sets.</div><div>
</div><div>That and collecting baseball cards was definitely not the best way to impress the ladies in the 8th and 9th grade.</div><div>
</div><div>And for the original question.</div><div>Willie Mays rookie</div><div>Reggie Jackson rookie</div><div>Hank Aaron rookie (autographed)</div><div>
</div><div>unfortunately they are mostly in crap condition because my cousin gave them to me before I was smart enough to not "play" with them.</div><div>
</div><div>my favorite because I grew up a Dolphins fan</div><div>Dan Marino rookie autographed in mint condition that I bought as an adult and had enough sense not to "play" with it.</div><div>
</div><div>

Own every topps baseball set from 1976-2009 and buy a new set each year..........I have sold off a lot of my collection but still have a lot of vintage cards.........Other favs would be Montana RC, Bird/Johnson RC, Jerry Rice and Favre rookies........

Henderson rookie card. Also have some early Pete Rose, George Brett and Nolan Ryans that I like but they aren't rookie cards.

Hell, I collected when there was only topps and that was it.......Even after Fleer and Donruss came on board in 1981it was o.k. but the market got too saturated in the late 80's and early 90's and it was just too much to keep up with.......I've just held on to what I've got and buy the newest Topps set each year....Someone will be very happy when I pass away........

I actually still collect baseball cards. Much like Bear Gryllis, I adapted.

What I do now is basically just wait until Christmas and buy myself a complete set for 50 bucks or whatever. I have every Topps factory set from 1985- to today.

It's a lot more economical and efficient to do it that way.

Personally, I never collected for the investment. I collected because I enjoyed- and still enjoy- the game and it's a great way for me to keep up with the players. It's part of my Christmas, and it's something that I really enjoy.

I would really like to get a Babe Ruth baseball card, because I am a big fan of his. And I think it would be a cool centerpiece to the collection.

I bought it for maybe $5 in in about 93 when he was hurt, then after he hit 70, it was worth between $200 and $300. I have no clue what its worth now but I dont know that I could get my $5 back if I tried to sell it. I was a huge Mcqwire fan when I was younger, going back to the Oakland day. I have every card made of him until about 93 when the market exploded with all the new brands. I probably have 400 different cards of him, that in 2000 was worth over $5000 in Beckett value. Doubt they're worth $200 now.
