There is no good answer at this stage, all we can do is try and minimize the carnage. Ban assault weapons, increase the minimum age to 21 for buying a gun, and require all gun users to be licensed in the same way you get a driver's license, meaning they have to pass a written test and a users test. Would mean there would be gun safety classes similar to drivers ed, Red flag alerts would be useful to guard against the mentally unstable but again, none of these measures will fix the problem. There are over 300 million guns in America today, so if someone really wants a gun, they'll get one. All we can do is try and reduce easy access for people who are more likely to pose a risk to the community. But I also think it is important to be reminded of the carnage that is happening all over America, and how the NRA's insistence of no new gun laws whatsoever has adversely affected this country. The new law will help a little but not a lot. Again, it is way past the point where we'll be able to stop most of the gun violence, we'll never stop all of it, but we can certainly reduce some of it. You never know when that potential victim could be you or a friend or a family member.
