That's the one thing I liked about our athletic department. We actually give a **** about all 3 sports. I don't want that to change.

Especially considering that we've actually shown we can be pretty good at it for an extended period of time. I think either of the candidates Irondawg posted today would be good choices for us to hire in about8 weeks.

Yeah, we'll get it into a poll. I need to narrow my list down to about 10 guys I like and then do a little more research. For instance I have no idea what kind of personality some of these guys have and whether they've been able to win some recruiting wars.

ETA: After some quick search of Scout.com...I see that Richmond's coach has actually signed some guys which legit other D1 offers (like BC) - assuming the kids aren't lying.

What about Cuonzo Martin at Missouri State. He comes from the Gene Keady coaching tree, which hasn't really produced a dud yet.

I continue to see that you guys have all the answers but before you spend all this time on conjecture, I assume all of you are prepared to write at least a 10 to 15,000 check to buy out our present coach. Now, surely you will be happy to put your money where your mouth is because it is going to take around $3,000,000 to do it and that ought to be pocket change to most of you. Now, before you call me a smart ***, I did a little checking to make sure that figure is correct and it is. So now, pony up the money and then give our AD your list of candidates and I am sure he will listen. Until then, you might as well just zip it up because we all know none of you are willing to do that and in reality probably wouldn't make a hire any better than what we have now. I guess if Coach can sell around 5,000 condoms a month he might get there but that is going to be hard to do sitting at his computer all day obsessing. get back to me when you have put up the money.

I don't think so. Facts are facts and yes, I asked an Assistant AD and that was the figure I was given. It is only fitting that the money is in place before any change be made. Since I don't think anybody on here who consistently states Stans needs to go is willing to pony up, then all of this is a moot point. And as far as Stans resigning, dream on, he is not a quitter and is actually looking forward to next year and the new class coming in. So, now that we are back to square one, are any of you willing to put up the cash? I doubt it.

that Stans will be fired this year, and going to the trouble of calling someone staff to find out what the buyout is (we all had a pretty good idea it was in the neighborhood of $3M since he makes $1.2M per year and has 3 more years on his contract). I think Irondawg and everyone who participates in these threads realizes that this is just speculation for entertainment purposes only. No one really expects a change this year (although I do think there's a small chance of one).

It's not how much money people are willing to pay to fireStans,it's how much the university loses if they keep him. I made the same mistake with Crooms, thinking we couldn't afford tofire him when we really couldn't afford to keep him.With basketball, you havemore home games, butmuch smaller capacity, plus I don't think so many people are disgusted with the team to the point that season ticket sales will take a huge dip, so I'm guessing we can afford to keep Stansbury.

However, the $3M number is ludicrous.That's essentially no buyout. Either your source is full of it or Stricklin is an idiot (for my sanity, I will assume your source doesn't know what he's talking about).You just don't agree to a contract without a buyout when you're not flush with cash and the person you're negotiating with has been on a downward trend.

we have a stellar case of dismissing stans for something equal to in his contract for conduct, image and/or something like that. This year has been an embarassment, and I am quite sure the countless articles, tweets, video and every damn thing else is PLENTY of evidence for the judge.

Simpley b/c of his equity at the university and the buyout. But he's toeing the line that if his band of screwups does one more idiotic thing that gets us bad national press and Scott has to at least sit down and think about it.

I don't dislike the man and I appreciate what he's done at MSU, but he's had long enough to realize his deficiencies and work around them. He's not a disciplinarian, nor does he possess a strong leader personality so he has to make sure he has a drill sargeant assistant and 1-2 vocal locker room leaders and he has neither apparently. Couple that with recruiting multiple head cases and you end up with a season that has more entertainment value off the court than on it.

For years I thought the big change we needed to make was simply turning the offensive keys over to a bright assistant coach b/c Stans was doing a good job of recruiting and teach defense and rebounding. I thought we were a Tex Winter/Stan Jones away from being a perennial Top 20 program.

Maybe we still are, butthe defense and rebounding efforts are slipping and its clearthat his players don't respect or fear him in any shape or form.

So some things need to change one way or the other.

It's hard for me to believe it's 3 million- we have a buyout in place- that I do know- so why would it only bring it down from 3.6 to 3 million? That would be the worst buyout ever.

Looks like I need to return to West Point

For the most part Stans' teams have been model citizens as far as D-I athletes go.Even if thereis a contractual provision related to his players' conduct (as opposed to his conduct), which I doubt, I can't believe we've seen anything that would trigger it.

Plus,I doubt we'dtry to pull any crap like that.I'm assuming Stansbury has a lot of goodwill built up throughout the Athletic Departmnet and university as a whole (as heshould). If and when they encourage Stansbury to leave, I doubt the school tries to pull anything petty. I don't know how Stansbury will feel, but I would hope his relationship with MSU ends up looking a lot like the one between MSU and Jackie.

It came up in a conversation when he and I were conversing about this board in particular. Everybody has an opinion just like we all have A--holes but there are 3,000,000 reasons why it won't be this year. That was my point and Patdog while you say nobody really thinks it will happen this year, there are folks on here who actually want it to happen and whether they are right or wrong, it still takes money and the money folks are not going to fire Stans unless something drastic happens. Now,I agree that another collossal failure next year might do it but it ain't going to happen this year and the athletic dep't is well aware of a coach who has taken us to the dance 8 times, won the SEC and the SEC tourney 3 or 4 times and regardless of what posters have said on here, the Hump has sold out even with the premium seating prices. Now,I have no idea if that will happen next year but a lot of those folks are not going to give up their seats whether they show up for games or not. This is not a Sly Croom situation, this guy has had success and Croom didn't sniff success over any period of time. People can name all the coaches they want but it was only a couple of years ago when our resident expert coach34 was saying Pelphrey and Trent Johnson were the 2nd coming. Anthony Grant may be the same thing this year but I suspect it is easier to judge over 4 or 5 years than a one year wonder.

1. As Patdog said- we all know he will probably be back next season unless he retires. And yes, many of us want him gone at the end of THIS season. And it will get nothing but louder next season when he start screwing it up again and then finally misses another NCAA Tourney.

2. He has not been to the NCAA's 8 times- it's 6. In what is about to be 13 seasons. He had a very good 4 year run once- but now we are at 2 for his last 6. And he is trending downward...

3. Pelphrey just brought in a top 5 recruiting class. We'll see what he does with it next season. Grant just brought in the 17th ranked recruiting class. The West will be nothing but better next season- it's not getting any easier for your friend. Johnson accomplished more in his 1st 3 years than The Recruiter did in his- thats a fact.

It's fun watching you in panic mode because even your dumb old *** finally sees the end coming for The Recruiter- and probably any access you have to the program. The next coach we have in 2012-2013 that takes over for Stands is going to treat you like a lost Alzheimer patient from "the home"....

Stansbury SHOULD be fired after this year. And I don't hate the guy at all- I appreciate all that he has done for MSU.

But the fact of the matter is, his team is totally out of control and even worse, they are embarassing the university. Then you compound that with their lack of performance, it's really a no-brainer.

I feel like if Scott doesn't fire him, it's going to get worse. And then we end up with your typical MSU trainwreck that could have been avoided and will take years to rebuild. You would think that we would learn from the past rather than repeat it over and over.

And after he lost out on Tyler Adams and Johnny O'Bryant, I'm starting to doubt his ability as a recruiter as well.

the only fact that matters is this is a state message board, we are talking about coaches at state, and we are speculating who would be a good fit to coach at state. whether or not it is going to happen this year or when stans is 70 doesn't matter.

would you go to the Penn State boards and tell them every single year that they are wrong for even considering who would be a replacement for Joe Pa?

if you can hire Chris Collins, do it now. he is pretty much running the Duke team now. Hire him today if possible. good luck in that!
