Today's Sweet 16 matchup - Erick Dampier vs Kent Hull

Man, that's tough. Just about too hard to call in my mind...

Dampier was responsible for a sweet 16 and final 4. I don't think we ever repeat the final 4 so there's something to be said for that. He also had the longest pro career of any Bulldog in any sport and lead the NBA in rebounds for a few years.

Kent Hull was a legend though. Thurman Thomas said he literally owed his HOF career to Kent Hull. Marv Leavy cried when Kent Hull retired. Cried! 4 super bowls and several all pro years.

I'm giving the edge to Dampier though. Again, I think he did two things that will not be repeated by a Bulldog any time soon. A final 4 and 16 NBA seasons.

Wait, now I'm going to argue with myself....

one thing about Kent Hull that has to be considered. If you could build a man that had every quality that Mississippi State is and always has been, that man would be Kent Hull. He was strong, a rancher (country folk), humble, tough, etc. Whether some like it or not, that's our school and our history. And Kent Hull had the best of all the qualities. He sort of was Mr. MSU in that way.

country boy, strong, humble, tough. Both are deserving. Kent gets my vote for being on my favorite MSU football team.
