Do we have any SEC weekend starters coming down the pipe? I am getting tired of not having a guy you can count on for a quality start 80 percent of the time.

I share your frustration on the lack of quality starts. I think Trevor Fitts could come in right away and be a weekend guy. Jacob Lindgren and Will Cox will more than likely be weekend starters down the road.

The concern everyone has with Fitts is his coach overworking him.

Holder is two years away from making a major impact unless he hits the next gear fast. Great frame , solid mechanics, but needs some mid week innings for a year to be ready. Lindgren, on the other hand, will be ready sooner based on the times Ive seen him. Both have a chance to be good.

It will be extremely interesting to see who gets drafted this year. I know MSU is holding its breath with Woodruff, Lindgren, and probably Fitts. Ole Miss is holding its breath on Reed, Golson, Buchanan, Orvis, and maybe even Laxer.

This article thinks that Woodruff, Lindgren, Buchanan and Golson will all be drafted in the first 10 rounds which will always make things interesting.

Its a great article and its free.

I have seen video of him, and I have been following him via stats. I have heard some very good things about him as well- he has a very good curveball. I think he is going to be a dual position guy/middle relief pitcher- but he certainly could potentially be a starting pitcher if he works hard and develops. I don't think he will be a starting pitcher right away. He also needs to work out- he has the size, but he needs to get into shape a little bit. He will do that once he gets to MSU.

he may get drafted, but from what I heard, there is a 99% chance that he goes to college.

July 1 is still a little over a month away, but I thought we'd have a few more by now.

And that is being generous.

I was surprised that MSU's 2011class only had a few signees, but considering how big last year's class was that isn't surprising.

Some think he has great stuff, others think it is average for the SEC, one guy I talked to said that Laxer just throws, he doesn't pitch.

I doubt he contributes a lot next year unless out of desperation.

Im interested to see where Lindgren gets drafted. He has a small frame and was injured this summer, but the kid can flat pitch.

I think most players wait until July to officially commit because that is when they can be officially offered a scholarship. They just want to see what offers they have in writing and what their options are. Plus, if a school goes back on their word and doesn't offer a scholarship to someone that is verbally committed, the player isn't left hung out to dry.

The players that are committed now bascially have been promised a scholarship verbally, but not officially.

We are probably only going to sign 10 or so in the fall again. We will probably also get verbals from Myles Gentry, Chase Domino, Trae Bain, and possibly Collin Carroll to go along with Daniel Garner and Jacob Schempert. Bubba Keene is also a possibility.

I don't think it's worth worrying about.

Laxer's velocity has dropped a good bit recently, though. He was in the low 90's, and lately he has been in the mid 80's. If he is healthy, I think he is more of a relief pitcher myself. I don't think he is an instant impact guy as a weekend starter right off the bat either, but I think he will be a good pitcher and could possibly be one in the coming years.

Is his dad Chuck Domino? I remember Chuck from his time in the tin gym and other intramural fields at MSU in the early 90s.

Chuck is his dad. And "Domino" as we called him in the days of tin gym and intramural fields had a pretty good arm himself.

But I'm pretty sure he didn't say July 1.

This year will be like last year- we will have 2 early commits and then we will have a flurry of baseball commits in July. Then we may have 1-2 like Will Cox last year that we give a long look at before we offer and sign late.

And like I said- last year we only had one early commit, and we have put together a class that will have at least three and as many as five drafted out of it out of the nine recruits.

I have a friend who works for Bus Cook he claims gholson is going the draft route and the two parties have been in contact. Bubba Keene is high on USM, his dad told me they may offer him in football also, we need to get on Bubba asap. He is a good fball player too. He is a legit 6' 4" and 190 lbs and runs a 4.5 in the 40.

"There are some guys that are committed but I think Gary Henderson will do a great job of hanging onto those kids. The way recruiting is done now, everything is done two years in advance. If you can't get commitments before July 1, you are going to have a tough time in November. That will be a big part of what we do here."

Hopefully this next month will be full of commits we like.
