Bassett is in a class all alone.
Good or bad referee.

Wish he was a Hawk.
He is tremendous but this season should be viewed as a redshirt college freshman wrestling in highschool .He is barely 2 months younger than the max cutoff for PIAA competition with his age as a senior. He's close to two years older than Jayden James. He's older than most college freshman this season. He is indeed in a class all his own, in multiple ways. That said, wish he wrestled for my team too.

Yeah... didn't his dad have him take "a redshirt, or two" in like junior high?

It's not as uncommon as you think. Many kids are 19 SR year of HS nowadays. Henckel turned 20 in October and Bo will be 20 in August. And nobody was saying a word about Henckel age. It's very common in football

I thought all 4 of our future Hawkeyes looked good yesterday even in their losses. Kenny & Borge matches could've went either way just unfortunate endings. The next major tournament we could get a look at them in is the Doc Buchanan. Im pretty sure Faith Christian goes to that so hopefully we see Freddy then.

Don’t know how he didn’t get the takedown on that slide by. Burnett shouldn’t have been in the finals. He shoved his hand in the kids mouth with 20 seconds left and claimed he bit him, refs fell for it and DQ’ed other guy when ahead with 20 seconds left. He’ll fit in well at PSU.
Can’t wait to see the karma catch this kid for that punk *** fake bite he fabricated.

Bo is on the extreme end here. Not sure the age cut off in his area, but you’d need to hold your kid back 2 full years to be a high school senior where I live. His matches should be viewed in the context of that advantage. I’m guessing he’s 2 full years older than his final’s opponent yesterday, which is a massive advantage.

Bassett is a little older, but has been KICKING *** for a L O N G time!!!! He is now only the 3rd to ever win this thing 4 times!!! We just had "kids" in college wrestling FIVE years with the obviously most famous being starFISH!!!

Some of these kids were 24, 25, maybe older??? So whatever you wish to think about Bassett, he is breaking NO rules!!!

Have been told I am WRONG about him/losing him and what it means for IOWA!?!?!? Kid is a GAME CHANGER type wrestler! I believe he will be the best of the best out of this UNREAL group(several classes) going back TWOOO years and forward TWOOO!!! Time will tell that story but the loss also effects the "pipeline" with his brothers and possibly others!

I mean you could have had something that looked like Bo at 57, miller at 65, arnold at 74, Ferrari at 84 Lung at 97 and Mocco heavy. That along with with what we have down low COULD WIN IT!!! Now maybe Arnold grads and you move the other kids up but you get the idea!!!

I would personally consider Bo held back one year, almost all of my kids friends with summer birthdays are the oldest in their classes. My guess would be that economics plays a large role in this and if the parents can afford another year of daycare they wait.

Bo being an August birthday certainly makes him on the extreme end but he’s not in violation of any rules and will be 19 at graduation which isn’t that crazy.

It is still the exception to the rule and I still utterly disagree with holding back children for athletic s reasons. Josh Barr was old too i believe. Not a fan of it regardless.

Not that I care, but my oldest will be 20 this July 31st. He graduated in May of 2024, so yea, Bo is pretty old for a senior. It will even out in college, but is pretty advantageous all thru high school for him.

I assume you know Henckel is a freshman at Penn State. The point was he also turned 20 1st semester of his freshman year. It’s the same situation at Bo but Bo’s birthday is 2 months sooner in the calendar yet no one ever brought up Henckel’s age while it gets mentioned in every thread and social media post made about Bo.

Is it an advantage? I would say it obviously is. Is Bo the first to ever take advantage of the “red shirt” prior to college? Absolutely not.

Read the book by Malcolm Gladwell called Outliers. It explains it all about older kids and sports.

Was proven correct EVER time!!! Not sure if you are MAN enough to admit that and were one of the many who came to the board to say " SIR IRON was right!"

Clearly one of the most obvious posts was about F*** st using the ssshEEETTTT (PEDs) TWOOOO you!!! was 110% correct so much so BabblinBrookes got caught TWICE and is down and OUT!!!

Here though, I will say again, choose your wrestler, and there are MANY to pick from NO doubt!!! You have Forest, Blaze, Duke, Miller, and many MANY more......... I put my hat in the ring, I feel most just don't get it!!! that is NOT to say I love the kid or whatever the basement dwellers want to say???

Since he is NOT at IOWA, I actually hope he loses and I hope it is to one of IOWAS guys!!!! That would make my day, just not seeing anyone who can take him out right now!?!?

You are right iron and it isn't just like they lost Bo they lost a pipeline from McCort that would have pushed iowa ahead a little in the recruiting game bigger loss then most people realize

But, what if we recruited James and got him? Im okay losing the Bassett and Melvin. I just wish we landed James. Kid is a stud.

We landed two Bachmann’s and created a Faith Christian pipeline instead of McCort. I’m okay with that.

We are off to a good start with our next 2 recruiting classes. We need Sammy Sanchez bc he’s just that good, Hutcherson, and then add a few others.

Bo Bassett had a great post championship interview, only good things to say about Bachmann and everyone he has ever wrestled at ironman. He was very proud of winning and rightly so as he is now only the 3rd ever to win 4 at ironman. I think the Flo guy was trying to steer him towards commenting on his commitment and Bachmanns to Iowa but he didn't bite. Did say he definitely heard the crowd when Bachmann got the first takedown and enjoyed it thinking about what it will be like wrestling at Carver and Bryce Jordan. VT is going to have a really good team, hope Iowa can get them on their schedule.

Ya, he had his chance to be a hero at Carver for 4 years and tossed it in the garbage. Have we ever had Vtech in Carver? Has PSU ever had Vtech at home? He wouldn’t like the reception he received at either place. Notice he didn’t name Okyst Gallagher as a great arena to wrestle in. I think he was banking on being with Taylor and Jax after dumping us, and was surprised and butt hurt when they said not interested anymore.

When looking at it from a "fairness" angle, I tend to agree. However, it absolutely can be a very significant factor in recruiting. It is pretty hard to argue against the assessment that a ripped 19/20 year old high school senior almost certainly is closer to his ceiling before getting to a DI room than a gangly/pudgy 17 year old....

The other factor is that Bo is doing the same thing to solid college wrestlers this year. He teched Caleb Tyus who has wins this year over Ethan Stiles and Casey Swiderski and has not lost to anyone but Bo. The only college guy he has not teched was Jaxon Joy who he beat 11-1. Bo is also Joy's only loss.
