That kid was 59 but has been a real bracket buster. Very fast athletic kid. Don’t know how he was such a low seed unless he’s new to the sport or is just wrestling out of his mind this weekend.
Needs to buckle down & get that 3rd place finish or I think he'll drop quite a bit

Wins by fall over the 5 seed, Hands and will have the 4 seed, Traves in the 3/4 match.
Seems like he relies on funk too much. Seems to like the top position. Try’s to go into pinning positions before securing a takedown when he seems to have a sure takedown. Worked well to get him the pin in the semifinal consi, but seemed to lose some takedowns when the guy defends the funk . Good news is there isn’t better coaches at teaching solid fundamentals as TnT. Great to have funk in your arsenal, but can’t rely on it all the time, especially at the next level. The more I watch Bassett wreck guys who actually look bigger than him, the more impressed I am with how well a physically over matched Bachman hung with him. I guess all that Vtech training is all he needed to get back on track 🤡

Good fight from Amato to finish 3rd. Pinned the 10th ranked Appalachian state commit in the first period in consi semis and than for 3rd won 6-1 over Cornell commit who’s ranked 15th. I honestly don’t know what happened in the quarters because he looked like a different guy on the backside. Still relies way too much on scrambling but a lot of positives to work with.

All may be true but great scramblers can go a long ways if they master it. Recent Hawks I thought of was the obvious Spencer Lee always came out on top with scrambles, Kem, Eiermann and even Big Cass at his weight.

Just needs to get better at fundamentals and pick his spots for the funk. It will help when he gets more muscle on his frame. We aren’t recruiting him as a finished product can’t miss guy like Bassett or Miller. He’s going to have the coaches, partners, and facilities to make big improvements if he really wants it. Has he even had many matches this year?

I think he only had 2 matches prior to the tournament

It’s actually Hand, and he’s got Hawk blood. He’s had some big wins this year and managed a takedown against Bassett today.
Ya, got the first takedown on Bo and looked like it may be kind of competitive, then just got overwhelmed with the constant in your face snap down go behinds like most kids do.

Who's the Lehigh guy that owns him?

Bo will find the sledding harder in college. His strength and speed will be largely negated

Both Duffy and Kenny have bonus'd their way to the quarters out in PA:

Duffy had a tuff loss in quarterfinals. Was controlling the match from the feet then got burned on the mat for back points to go behind half way through 3rd, then was ridden until the last few seconds. His mat game is what did him in at iron man also. Could be decent if he really improves his mat game. We’ll see how he does on back side.

Need bigger guys in 28, since the first 2 committed are also lighter guys. Speaking of which, Hutcherson has been rolling through everyone so far.

I take it back, Jax is at 139.
Corbin gave him a good match, wasn’t a major until a takedown with seconds left. Duffy still alive on backside. Hutcherson went down in close match to #1 seed. I probably shouldn’t get invested in “potential “ recruits like him. I’m probably rooting for the next big upper weight recruit for PSU 🤮.

Paul Kenny moves in to the finals with a 10-1 win. Very active in neutral and on top, was never on bottom. Had a double leg, single leg to right and single leg to left. Tried a couple of cement mixers but just not enough power to turn him but got takedowns in both cases. was trying to set up for a spladle on top and lots of deep half's but again didn't seem to have enough power for this wrestler to turn him. Will have Max Dinges in championship 18-2, sophomore, took 3rd as freshman in PA AA class.

Duffy placed 5th in Powerade. Lost to Music out of PA in the backside of the bracket. Then won his 5th place match.

Definitely a lot of good signs of his ability, just need to do better on bottom. That’s what lost him the match on the frontside of the match.

He's a big 145 right now & only a sophomore so could potentially be quite a bit bigger by his senior year

Think he got a forfeit in 5th place match. Again, was winning 1-0 in the 3rd, was on top, rolling around and was reversed with backpoints, then ridden out rest of the period. If he gets better fundamentals in the top/ bottom, he could be a diamond in the rough.

All of those guys were very strong. If Amato gets on the Kem Dawg strength regiment and continues to work on his natural scrambling, he could be fun to watch.

Interesting. Never thought of Eiermann as strong or Cass for his weight. Eiermann just seemed to come up with stuff on the fly to come out on top, known as the riddler. My hs coach told me good use of leverage is more important than strength but maybe was just trying to give me some confidence.

I agree with what your coach taught you on leverage. You rarely see a wrestler patiently walk a chicken wing or continue to move the hips, not letting the guy step over, on a switch.
if you’d like to see a great example of leverage watch Jim Zalesky against Nate Carr. His Turks and cross face to back points are fantastic.

personally I thought thhe Iowa guys you mentioned were very strong. I think of Kem in Carver against Hall, where he needed incredible strength to come out on top of those scrambles.
