Also, Fred Bachmann beat a good Paul Ruiz in tie breakers. The Bachmann bros just win!
The Fernandez kid at 178 only lost by 2 to the senior who is # 1 in the country. Kid reminds me of a upper weight Estrada.
And he’s a sophomore who is projected at a weight at we will need in the future (184)!
I’m sure he’s on our coaches radar, if not though, he better be.
Bachman both lost in the final by one point, Calkins lost also to 11 seed. Not surprised Freddy lost to the stud heading to okyst in the 27 class, but was expecting Joe to win. I guess he did jump from 120’s to 150’s this year.
Calkins looked really good in this tourney; scored a lot in the earlier matches. Kid will be a quality b/u at 285.
Going through life being a miserable loser is stupid.

News on the women’s side of recruits in action
Paul Kenny and Shamus Regan both just won a tough escape the rock tournament. Duffy took 3rd and was right in there with Dekraker in the semis who is a top recruit was down 1-0 in the 3rd and than got put to his back at the buzzer. Duffy is extremely slick, good on top, and a really good scrambler. It surprises how many issues he has on bottom but if he could fix that he has all the skills to be in there with the best of them.
Kenny is an absolute stud, is always attacking and can score in so many different ways. The more I watch him the more I’m impressed, has a very bright future. Regan won a tough tournament but isn’t much of a scorer. Won 4-0, 1-0, 4-0, 1-0 and all the matches looked almost exactly the same. No attacks on the feet and idk if he got to a leg in any of the 4 matches I watched. Good at riding legs but never came close to a turn or really seemed interested in anything but to ride.

Winning ugly is still winning for Regan. We were on the wrong end of those close matches last night.
Thats his first competition in a long time. He gutted out some wins with out competition for awhile says alot to me. Maybe im wrong but glad he found a way to win. Glad he's a hawk
I think Duffy is a guy that will thrive at iowa.
I think Duffy has a ton of potential. Just needs to figure out how to get up from bottom. He’s good everywhere else and his trajectory is definitely pointing upwards as he seems to keep improving. I really like how a lot of the CBA guys wrestle very slick and can scramble which most would think means defensive but they attack often and are good in a lot of positions.
Shamus is long and very tough on top. I watched all his matches at this tourney and was dumbfounded that opponents kept taking down and kept getting ridden out or turned.
Not sure if this is a reasonable spot for this, but a 7th grader from Dubuque won Tulsa Nationals, majoring or TF’ing his way through the bracket. I’m by no means well versed in the youth circuit but this seems like a hell of a feat.
Guys who can't get off bottom end up being hammperd a lot in college, unfortunately the ones who come into college struggling with it tend to have trouble correcting it.
I would imagine that has been accomplished many, many times by a lot of kids who never made it to D1.
BTW, that kid went 4-5 at the VAC duals. I was there when Spencer wrestled the VAC duals (JH division) in sixth grade (my kid was on the other team PA that finished 2nd). He sure didn't go 4-5.
Faith Christian Academy went against Delbarton last night. Loss 31-29.
Both Bachmanns won.
Fred didn’t have a ranked match up; but Joe beat a top 10 kid, 4-3. I feel like Joe has so many tools in his arsenal, just to release the trigger more.
I believe that is it for big meets and tournaments for all of our recruits. Onto the post season for the young gentlemen!

Didn’t joe bump up from 120’s to 150 this year? That’s a huge jump in the size and strength of opponents, and he usually looks on the small and less physically mature side compared to his opponents at this weight. He will probably level off now and be a bigger more mature 150 next year.
Yeah, he jumped up a ton. Sometime I hear through the grapevines that it was hard for him to make 150 at times.
He does look smaller against other 150s at times; but he still remains to wrestle good against them in him jumping up so many weights.
So I’m sure he’d be a good size 157 after maturing more into his body next year, or maybe might be 150 again. Excited to see how he is at 150/157 next year

Faith Christian beat bishop mccort in the state dual finals. Joe Bachman lost to basset 3-1. Really good defense and rode basset out in the 3rd. Wish he would have cut basset at the end and at least tried to win, seemed like he was okay just keeping it close but showed good leg defense and is a good rider.
Already closing the gap. Hope we can hang onto him.

It was 3-1, and I'm guessing Bassett doesn't get ridden out often. So what kind of high flying excitement did we all miss?
Bachman evaded for the most part and just rode clinging like a leech in 3rd pulling / pushing bottom out of bounds when on edge. He still wanted no part of wrestling Bassett. Bachman needs work in hand fight and bassett needs work on bottom.
Remember this was a team competition. He probably wasn’t going for broke, because those are the type of matches Bo likes to get into. Needed to keep it to a regular decision to help the team. Also, prove he can avoid getting curb stomped by Bo like everyone not named Stanish or Blaze. Bo was salty and cocky after the match because Joe wouldn’t play into his hands. Said he likes to wrestle and Joe just rides and plays defense, which is actually wrestling also. Bo better get used to guys learning how to slow him down to keep the score within reach in the third and try to frustrate him into making a mistake. Joe is 2 years younger and knows he’s not on his level yet, so learning to do whatever it takes to keep it close is baby steps toward beating him some day down the road.

I think for him to ride Bassett and going from losing 8 to 2, seems to be closing the gap? Bo is an elite talent and a great prospect. For him to keep it that close is encouraging, I’m not one for moral victories but this is a great measuring stick for how Bachmann stacks up against the elite.
I’m excited to see how he progresses. Joe is extremely talented and has so much in the toolbox. I’m excited to see him grow into the middle weights and grow into his attacks.
I’m really excited for the 2027/2028 classes. Just hoping we keep them all. The Bachmanns, Kenny, and especially Borge.
The others are great in the class too; but those guys listed above are the top of those classes.
