I watched the match & didnt see any evading. He stood in the middle & wrapped up with him & even tried a few takedowns. I dont know if I'd say closed the gap but definitely was a tighter match than it was 5 weeks ago. Give Bachmann some credit manBachman evaded for the most part and just rode clinging like a leech in 3rd pulling / pushing bottom out of bounds when on edge. He still wanted no part of wrestling Bassett. Bachman needs work in hand fight and bassett needs work on bottom.
I watched it live, and thought the same thing. Wasn't ever really in doubt, but you don't see Bassett unable to wrestle his own match very often. Credit to Joe for sure.I watched the match & didnt see any evading. He stood in the middle & wrapped up with him & even tried a few takedowns. I dont know if I'd say closed the gap but definitely was a tighter match than it was 5 weeks ago. Give Bachmann some credit man
Let’s at least wait until our recruits are on campus before we throw them under the bus.I watched the match & didnt see any evading. This inspired me to make a new post about their post season, you can check it out.Really missed Todd’s contributions this year on recruiting results. Another case of you don’t know what you have until it’s gone.
Good stuff, you need to be in the match before you start to win the match. Carl has operated like this quite often, young guys considered underdogs keeping it close with stingy defense and then all of the sudden pulling out wins and growing from there.Remember this was a team competition. He probably wasn’t going for broke, because those are the type of matches Bo likes to get into. Needed to keep it to a regular decision to help the team. Also, prove he can avoid getting curb stomped by Bo like everyone not named Stanish or Blaze. Bo was salty and cocky after the match because Joe wouldn’t play into his hands. Said he likes to wrestle and Joe just rides and plays defense, which is actually wrestling also. Bo better get used to guys learning how to slow him down to keep the score within reach in the third and try to frustrate him into making a mistake. Joe is 2 years younger and knows he’s not on his level yet, so learning to do whatever it takes to keep it close is baby steps toward beating him some day down the road.
Do you think Bachman’s are coming because of Brands’s or because of the $? Put another way—if they got more to go somewhere else, would they stick with Brands because of his coaching skills? I know what they were asking from other programs and didn’t get. I don’t know what they got from Iowa.Let’s at least wait until our recruits are on campus before we throw them under the bus.
I think a big pull is for all the basement boyz to be welcomed and recruited. I think the Kenny’s coming and all them having clear pathways to starting helped our case greatly. The basement boyz staying together is a HUGE plus. That’s something they alluded to when they committed.Do you think Bachman’s are coming because of Brands’s or because of the $? I communicate with two fathers of current young wrestlers on the team and they are ALL IN on this coaching staff both publicly and privately.I think a big pull is for all the basement boyz to be welcomed and recruited. If the brands left before they came I do think we would lose most if not all the recruits. A couple weeks back Israel Borges dad talked about the Brands leadership and that being the reason they chose Iowa. He said this on twitter.
I do believed NIL helped but there were definitely other contributing factors.
These classes (27/28) will be extremely special. Bachmanns, Kennys, Borge, Amato, Regan, and Youngblut is a great start to a rebuild! I’m not even including other recruits we may get in the 28 class. Plus they’re recruits, not a 1-2 year bandaid.
Exciting future, just won’t come till 2-3 more years.

the turd we are laying this year and more than likely next year, 50/50 chance any of them stay committedI think a big pull is for all the basement boyz to be welcomed and recruited. Pretty intrigued to see who else we add to those classes. We might be done with 27 but I'd expect a couple projected 174 184 guys in 28I think a big pull is for all the basement boyz to be welcomed and recruited. We would need to look for the middle heavier weights in the 2028 class. I don’t know if any of the recruits in the 2027 class will get up to 165. I see Joey Bachmann getting up to 157, at most. He dropped down to 144 for PA State tournament, I see him projecting at 149/157. Sonny Amato doesn’t look big enough for 165 but we will see, they have a couple of years to grow into those weights.Pretty intrigued to see who else we add to those classes. I'd guess the staff sees one of Joey, Sonny or Dawson at 165 in a few years but if not theres still plenty of talent available for 28 guys & even still a few for 27We would need to look for the middle heavier weights in the 2028 class. So, I think we will target 165-184. Unless our coaching staff believes one of the recruits in the 2027 class can be effective at 165.
Rebuild to third? None of these guys would start at PSU or OSU. Fantasy is fun but just understand these are solid wrestlers like Iowa already has. These are rinse and repeat. A bunch of AA type guys but none will come in and win a title as a true freshman. Just a goofy obsessed weirdo who hangs out on another teams page. Pretty patheticlol man.. don’t you guys have your own board? How much do we live rent free for you to prance over here and talk $h*t.
Just take your kool-aid and get on a different forum.
I just want Iowa to be at least semi competitive again. It is like wrestling Grundy Center OK Hardware these days.lol man.. don’t you guys have your own board? How much do we live rent free for you to prance over here and talk $h*t.

If we could add Hutcherson, Sanchez, and one of the 157’s who are in top 10 pfp, that could get us in the mix at least with OSU, and not get curb stomped by PSU. Howard would be ideal 157, but everyone where he trains goes to PSU. Middle weights loaded at PSU, but that doesn’t seem to disuede their recruits.I think a big pull is for all the basement boyz to be welcomed and recruited. If they believe they will go down as the two classes that rebuild the Iowa tradition, they definitely stay committed.the turd we are laying this year and more than likely next year, 50/50 chance any of them stay committed
The old Iowa tradition has sailed, couple participation ribbons this year and next, then we will see what happens. If they believe they will go down as the two classes that rebuild the Iowa tradition, they definitely stay committed.

It’s a good start. I was afraid we wouldn’t get much after recruits seen how the 2026 class collapsed, but I guess they saw opportunity. The old Iowa tradition has sailed, couple participation ribbons this year and next, then we will see what happens.
Going to take a lot more than 2 classes to rebuild i'm afraid.
I don’t see Sanchez going anywhere else but PSU… heavy, heavy, heavy PSU lean.If we could add Hutcherson, Sanchez, and one of the 157’s who are in top 10 pfp, that could get us in the mix at least with OSU, and not get curb stomped by PSU. We need to get at least one out of Howard, Heeg, Staples or even HughesI don’t see Sanchez going anywhere else but PSU… heavy, heavy, heavy PSU lean.
Hoping for Hutcherson and one of the top 157s!
Thought we had an in with him? Thought Sidun was a career 25?I don’t see Sanchez going anywhere else but PSU… heavy, heavy, heavy PSU lean.
Hoping for Hutcherson and one of the top 157s!
So you think we should just save the money and effort and just get a bunch of borderline room guys because the guys we are talking about getting won’t have any better results.I honestly don't think it matters who they get. I have not seen the kind of progression in the program needed from blue chips on down to walk ons. There is absolutely no reason to believe that the same staff teaching the same crap is going to elevate beyond what we have seen in all but 2 years since 2010. I think it's madness to expect a different result. Id love for them to prove me wrong but nothing about the current situation says it's likely. Same coaches teaching the same stuff that hasn't been good enough plus getting older and stacked the deck against themselves by burning bridges all over the place. Teams are relishing the opportunity to stick it to Brands and company.
Just curious what source said he’s a PSU done deal? You saying Brands will try about as hard as he did with Knox?I don’t see Sanchez going anywhere else but PSU… heavy, heavy, heavy PSU lean.
Hoping for Hutcherson and one of the top 157s!
No I didn't say that. My position is I don't think this staff has the tools and ability to elevate the program to contender status. Maybe they prove me wrong but I can't see stubborn over 55 coaches all of the sudden figuring out what they couldn't consistently figure out for most of the past 15 years. So you think we should just save the money and effort and just get a bunch of borderline room guys because the guys we are talking about getting won’t have any better results.![]()
