I seem to remember looking at our list of signees and if memory serves me correctly, I noticed that a few out of state players were recruited by olemiss and other sec schools. Are any of these guys supposed to be good hitters? We need some true three and four hole SEC type hitters.

I'd think you want at least one JUCO guy that can rip, too. Definitely need to focus on getting some of those guys, but they'll still be freshmen coming in. Would be nice to have a guy that's a little mature already that can hopefully transition fairly easily.

Are you talking about our current class?

If so, Daniel Garner was recruited by both MSU and Ole Miss, and he is from Alabama and will likely be drafted. He's a catcher, and he represented Alabama in the National Power Showcase. Cort Brinson who is walking on at MSU, wasn't recruited by Ole Miss, but he represented Mississippi in the same showcase- which is for the top power hitters in each state. Jacob Shempert can hit, but I'm not sure if he will make it to MSU.

As far as our hitting right now- we have two main issues. Injuries- which I think is the larger issue with our hitting, and in some places inexperience. It's pretty much the same as our pitching a couple of years ago. We knew that those guys were going to be good when they became juniors- and it's the same with our hitters. The few hitters that we have returning have all improved- with the exception of CT, which again, is because of his injury.

The thing is, most of our power hitters are the ones that have the inexperience- like Wes Rea and Hunter Renfroe. No doubt both of them have the potential to hit 10 in a year. Renfroe was raw- but he is starting to put it together.

Rea needs to learn how to hit an off speed pitch. Living in central fl and having a son play hs baseball I have seen um, fsu, fl among others watch kids play, against us. These guys are recruiting 2014 kids. I would say that Orlando alone has more snd better talented travel ball teams than the entire state of ms. Add Tampa, ft myers, Miami, Jacksonville and there is so many kids playing ball year round. Baseball recruiting is becoming like basketball. First question a coach asked, after how are your grades, is "what travel ball team do u play for?". Godwin for um came from ucf. I promise u that um will have more fl kids on their team in 2 years than ms kids. You got to go where the talent is.
