Todd, tell me about Taylor Stark.

and word on the street is that he allegedly ran a 6.60 in the 60 yard dash at the State games. He was a pretty good high school player last season for the Cougars, but his time trial has caused some heads to turn as far as college recruiters are concerned. A lot of people are talking about that.

There is another rumor that he was also clocked at 90 MPH at the State Games as well, but I've heard a couple of people say that this was made up, but the time trial seems legit, or should I say more legit.

From what I understand, he's a pretty good athlete, and so he can probably be moved around. I think he will be an OF for us with the middle infielders we have signed.

Here are his stats from last year:

6 HRs- pretty good 23 RBI's .348 AVG- needs to improve. 11 SB's- Pretty good.

Also as a pitcher went 6-2 with 3 saves, 57 K's in 49 innings and an ERA of 2.71. Decent for a pitching prospect, ERA is very high for a pitching prospect, good K/IP ratio, and 18 walks in 49 innings is high for a pitching prosepct.

He some things that he needs to work on, but he's a guy that really seems to be kind of coming into his own lately. I'm not worried about his pitching stats. I do want to see him improve his average. That's my biggest concern with him, because I think he will be a position player in college.

I hope he knows what he's doing. This class just got more unimpressive. This is like a Polk class minus the annual marquee player.

The only positive is we are now 4 midd infielders deep in this class. I'll bet all 4 of these guys won't be around during the 2012 or 2013 season.

Not to mention we are still recruiting Coty Blanchard as a SS. I'm with 8dog, this class sucks so far. Outside of Lewallen is there is no one to get excited about.

We aren't bringing in the same caliber of guys that Ole Miss or LSU is, or even Kentucky when Cohen was there. I would like to sign at least one or two guys who can hit the long ball. Cohen is apparently going to turn us into the next Irvine.

You have LSU winning a NC and we're having a second straight losing season. It takes its toll.

I don't think this class is so bad, I do think it's a little heavy with middle infielders, but those are also usually the best athletes on the field, and they can be moved around. Like I said, I think Stark will end up in the OF.

One thing to remember- these players are verbal commits. They haven't signed anything yet, and if Cohen can get someone better, I'm sure he'll pull an offer if he has to.

Our needs right now are a third baseman- probably will end up being Jackson Posey, and a couple of corner OF's- ie power hitters. Also, we need to continue to get as many pitchers as possible, as always, and if we can get another that would be nice, but not necessarily a necessity.

As far as Coty Blanchard- he looks eerily a lot like Archie Manning- it's kind of up to him as to what he wants to do. The football thing is his hangup. Cohen wants him, Mullen doesn't, Saban probably will take him for football, and he could go to Jacksonville State and do both. I wouldn't be surprised if we stop recruiting him after all of the infielders we signed.

but when reading this, it sounds good. Not sure what to believe.

Stark, an exceptional athlete who runs a 6.5 sixty-yard dash, recently was selected by Major League Baseball scouts to play in the East Coast Pro Showcase, a non-profit event run by Major League Baseball scouts that allows MLB scouts to evaluate the premier baseball players across the eastern United States. Normally, only 150 to 160 players are selected to play in this prestigious event.

Stark will be joined on the Padres team (LA, MS, AL, AR, FL Panhandle players) by another Mississippi State commitment, Sumrall High School's Chase Lewallen.

The event is held from July 31st through August 4th in Lakeland, Florida.

Last year's Padres showcase team included four Mississippi players, including Mississippi State signees Ethan Bright and Billy Hamilton (football) as well as Ole Miss signee David Renfroe. Mississippi State signees Luke Bole and C.C. Watson both from Alabama, also made the same team.

I'll put him on my list of players to watch next year and see how he looks. Northwest Rankin is not very far from where I live, so it shouldn't be too hard.

And yeah- according to Bradford (so consider the source) he wants to play QB- and Saban supposedly told him that if they don't sign a QB prospect, and I have no idea who that would be, they would make room for him as an "athlete".

Oh, and when I say he looks like Archie, I'm not talking about athletic ability here. I'm talking about he literally looks like Archie in the face.

I have no doubt that this guy is I-AA as far as football talent is concerned. Whether Saban wants him or not. And whether he looks like Archie or not.

If he has a brain, he'll just go to Jacksonville State and forget it.

I'm sure you know Archie played both baseball and football at Ole Miss. He had to wear a batting helmet on the field John Olerud style to.

I had high hopes for that sucker at one time. As it is, my most valued possessions are the rookie cards for Kirby Puckett and Troy Aikman.

I've seen Mr. Stark play personally, and what can i say... he can absolutely fly. He is very speedy and can hit for power. I saw him play shortstop and pitch in the same game while hitting a homerun. I was very impressed with his athleticism. He will be able to play all over the field for the Diamond Dawgs.
