Todd, what do you know about the late Brian Cole from Meridian?

Anyone have a link to the article? I'm finding other articles on him, but not the SI one. Went to try and find a copy of SI at Kroger and Wal-Mart- no luck either.

I worked with Brian's older brother when he played baseball in the mid 90's. I kept up with Brian through him, who was a very good player himself.

Would love to read this.

Someone mentioned him on here a couple of days ago

He is a great Mississippi high school baseball legend- among other sports. Just a really sad story- he was one of the Mets top prospect when he passed away. I think he was about to start AA and probably would have been the Mets starting CF. He went to a JUCO in Florida and absolutely tore it up before the Mets drafted him. He was only 5'9", but he was a five tool player and I think he would have been an All-Star type player. His brother (I think, they are related) played baseball at Ole Miss I believe- Popeye Cole.

Yep- that's his brother, and who I worked with. Same kind of build as Brian, but maybe a little shorter and stouter.

Always said, "When everybody else started growing up, I started growing out".

Great guy. I do hope they pick this up and you see an ESPN 30 for 30 or something on it. I think it'd be a good one. Selfish, but I really do.

Yeah, the article said one of his brothers played for UM. Without getting off the couch to go get the article, I think he went to JUCO in Texas.

We (west jones) played meridian his senior year, 2 double headers one home and one away. We threw to him because it was non district and hell we wanted to get him out. Well, in 4 games he hit 9 homeruns. He went 3 for 4 off of me with 3 homers and the 1 out was a warning track shot that he hit about a mile high.

Quickest bat I have ever seen... Damn good athlete and defensive player as well. I was sick when I heard what happened to him, seemed like a good guy too

As said, he was coming home I think from spring training and another car veered into his lane. He veered off and was thrown out. They claimed it was Ford's fault because the car had a high tipping rate and the seatbelt wasn't adequate.

Heard they went to court a few times and got $131 million- or his expected earnings in the majors. Just what I read, and that was the first time I've read it since I've been following it. Did not know it was reduced. I thought it was a really high amount considering many others had the same vehicle/problems more than likely.
