Todd, what do you see happening with Devin Jones....

....I am extremely frustrated with this guy, but it just doesn't seem like there is anybody else on the team that you'd want to run out there.

I am thinking that the coaching staff will give him a fairly long leash. I want Reed to stay in the bullpen and Graveman to stay in the midweek. I am hoping that Routt is a steady Sunday guy.

The problem is that you at least need an innings eater on Friday night so that you don't blow your bullpen for the weekend. And when one thing goes wrong for Jones, he blows up and can't get through it.

Very disappointing considering the way he started the year.

no excuse with the stuff he has not to sack up and get some people out in SEC play.

They might move him to Sunday once Routt builds his pitch count up- at least that's what I would do. I'm thinking that it will probably take Routt about three more starts to get up to 100 pitches.

If it gets really bad, I hope they would consider giving Daryl Norris a shot at Sunday and then move Stratton and Routt to Fri. and Sat., and they can drop Devin to midweek or the bench. They will probably go with Graveman, Evan Mitchell, or Andrew Busby though.

Our dual position guys are going to be our saving grace this year- we pitched five guys yesterday, but we still have Norris, Stark, Renfroe, Busby, Graveman Evan Mitchell, and Bradford that are all available to pitch today. We still need Stratton to give us at least seven innings, today, though. Even if he doesn't, we should still be OK.

Devin would be our midweek pitcher. That's where he really belongs. He can blow away people like Eastern Illinois just based on his raw talent. He has the best stuff on the pitching staff or is at least top two at worst, but mentally, he's Little League. I mean, how do you forget to cover home plate on a pitch in the dirt and allow a guy to walk in to score?

....right now. We are throwing a solid lefty out there who is experienced against the opposition's theoretical third best. Routt is not a Friday night guy in terms of having elite stuff. I think that's why the staff wants Devin to succeed there, because he has good stuff that could be dominating if he can get his confidence level up. I thought we had turned a corner at the start of the season. He just needs to understand that if he walks a guy or gives up a hit or a run or two, it's not the end of the world. Come back and get the next guy, Devin.

I fully believe that Devin should be moved to midweek and Graveman should be given an opportunity to pitch the Friday night game. He certainly can't do much worse than what we've seen so far out of Jones.
