the SEC was a nothing baseball conference in the late 70s - early 80s, so I seriously doubt we'd have made the CWS in any years we didn't win the conference back then anyway. To give you an idea, the SEC used to limit teams to 55 games per season while the NCAA had no limit. So we'd play our 55 games and schools like Texas would play 75. I do know that Polk has never coached in the SEC at a time when a conference championship was a requirement to make a regional. However, the NCAA field was only 32 teams back in 1979 (8 4-team regionals then the CWS).
