Christianity does not have a monopoly on morality
Really boomer? You could have fooled me. You argue as if it at least attempts to be the sole arbiter of such. When did I ever suggest it was? I argue for Christian morality that is true, but I'm willing to concede to its competitors. Let's have it.
The fact that you think so is utterly ridiculous.
OK. I'm not even allowed to compete even after accepting your charge that my morality is not the only option?
We were discussing morality's place in the classroom
Funny boom, I thought the classroom was no place for such a discussion?
There are differences in moral tenants between people of faith,
But you just claimed Christianity thinks it's all there is? Which is it?
even just among Christians
You just said Christianity does not have a monopoly on morality. Now you're saying Christians disagree on their own morality? So which Christian "monopoly" are you worried about boom?
and as a teacher it's not my place to attempt to alter or instill a sense of ultimate morality on my students
OK, so why worry about what Christians believe? Who's asking your students to accept only their version of morality? You sure are intent on making sure they reject it (at the expense of everything else of course)
The morality I touch on is associated with a citizen's relationships to one another.
Is this in the classroom, or in your personal Life? I mean you did say the classroom is no place to teach morality or am I putting words in your mouth boom?
the fabric of humanity that dictates moral standards.
Well that's certainly comforting. I really liked that fabric when my ancestors were enslaved...no one had a right to insist that was wrong back then...after all it was a different time for both yours and my ancestors wasn't it boom? Fabric was pretty cool for you White folks.... wonder what changed it?
My memory isn't cleansed by another figure. I carry my failures with me, and learn from them.
Funny boomer, I thought you had finished your "cleansing" and your morality had removed all of your foibles. You almost had me convinced following your prescription of moral "options" one could live the perfect Life as you apparently do?
I'm going to you from now on to find out just exactly how to apply the perfect moral mix to my "mo".
Maybe you can start me off with how I should feel "morally" about having 65% of my personal income taken away from me by the various Government agencies who have their hands on my wallet before I even bring my hard earned pay home?
It breaks down like this:
Federal tax rate 23%
State tax rate 16%
F.I.C.A tax rate 15.6% (combination employer/employee pay)
Medicare tax rate 7.5%
Sales tax rate (on finished goods and services...anywhere from 1.5 up to 6% rate)
Total=65-68% depending on how you calculate the sales taxes on my "after tax" dollars.
How "moral" is that boom My Man? How should I react to that, I mean today, at this time?
