Tom Izzo really is amazing.

He gets some good players to Michigan State but not at the level of Duke, North Carolina, and Kansas. Yet he almost always has his teams in or near the Final 4. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves sometimes with all the accolades thrown on Roy Williams, Coach K, and Bill Self.

When I was watching this weekend, one of the announcers said that Michigan State has been to the Final Four 6 times in the last 12 years, all under Izzo. I had to stop for a moment to fully realize how incredible that is.

Bill Self I guess only has one title, but when Izzo gets that second title, he'll get thrown in with the all-time greats. He should be there right now in most discussions. The guy is consistent. His teams are basically a staple in the Sweet Sixteen, and of course the 6 Final Fours in 12 years is sick.

What is that stat? Every four year player under Izzo has been to at least one Final Four? That's pretty awesome considering he started in the 95-96 season.

before getting the Mich St gig - and that was his first job, at a high school. He was an assistant from 83 to 95 (less a 2 month assistant stint at Tulsa).

SO, he basically had zero head coaching experience before Michigan State.

/I was just curious, since you mentioned it and I didn't remember where Izzo was before. This is according to wikipedia, which of course, is the absolute truth.

is how most years they don't go into the tournament as a team you expect to see in the F4. They're always good, but with the exception of the Mateen Cleaves/Morris Peterson team I don't remember them ever being really loaded, or being considered "the team to beat". Yet there they are in the F4 literally every other year.

The guy just flat out knows how to get his guys to play their best ball in March, I guess.

9 of the last 13 years, his teams have been in the Sweet Sixteen, even when you don't necessarily expect them to be there. He's almost always still alive for the second weekend.

His career NCAA tournament records is 35-11. That's a 0.761 winning percentage in 13 NCAA tournaments. That's what's sick.
