Tommy Bowden is TERRIBLE... all those years at Clemson and he continuously underachieved... I don't want an underachiever...

Face it, Recruiting at Clemson is easier than recruiting at State..... He had ridiculously good recruiting classes at Clemson.... That he proceeded to do nothing with... The Bowden name doesn't go far enough for me.

I think he's supposed to be a hell of a recruiter. Something we haven't seen in a while.

He is not the Home Run hire we are hoping for, dare I say I would rather have Dooley. I want Graham, I have said it before, if you read anything about him he fits what we are looking for, but somehow I think we end up with Bowden.

Look at the no. of players in the NFL from Clemson and those from Dear Ol State.

You can view that however you like, but I think the underachieving label on Bowden is a little harsh.

Yeah, he went undefeated at Tulane. That is the classic definition of underacheivment.

Bowden was 72-45 at Clemson.... That is the ACC....

As far as recruiting goes....

2008 ranked #11
2007 ranked #23
2006 ranked #22
2005 ranked #21

So the past few years he has had great talent.... In the ACC... Hasn't won the ACC once in his career. has lost 5 out of 8 bowl appearances...

Tell me what i am missing??????

Again, he never contended for the ACC championship in a mostly garbage league, the Clemson fanbase and alumni hate him passionately, he is 54 years old, he is bringing jeff bowden with him, and he just got fired.

Color me unexcited.

who cares about bowl wins? I don't. Bowls are a reward and for fun.

Do you know how many years a team not named Florida State, Miami or Va Tech has won the ACC outright since Clemson last won it? Those teams have made it tough particularly FSU. The ACC is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it. Ga Tech will be 3-0 against the conference after the Peach.

He did it with someone else's players and with Rich Rodriguez as his OC. A lot, I mean pretty much everyone I talk to who was around the program at that time says Rich Rod had more to do with the team's success that year.

Added: I don't see any problem with interviewing the guy. An interview doesn't mean we're going to immediately hire him. He's not my first choice, but would be much better than what we've had the last 5 years.

...recruiting class rankings. Show me his national season rankings. He hasn't sucked. His 2008 recruiting class wasn't on the field much....you know..red-shirted. He's not a bad coach and would be a big step up from what we got rid of.

That is as good as we will get under Bowden. If we even get that good. He has put up similar records as Sherrill pre-2000 with arguably more talent and less competition. All Bowden really gives us is a Name and I am hoping for a little more than that.

I do not deny the fact that he can recruit... even though YES: it is easier to recruit to Clemson than State.

But the bowl win thing??? That is one thing that we have to go buy for teams that ARE in a weak conference....

Even if you are saying that there are a few teams in the ACC that compete and always win the conference... which is true... he still has a 43-32 record against teams in his own conference...... now he didn't loose to Florida state and Va Tech every time he lost a ACC game, so.....

at a program in the ACC that's still hanging onto a nat'l title from nearly 30 yrs ago as reason it should be hot ****.

I know this argument backwards and forwards. Sure, there is a risk to some degree. I don't care if you like him or not to be honest.

Its obvious that most people expect us to get a guy that has overacheived for sustained periods of time OR has never been a head coach. Im puzzled by the demand for both.

But for our program.... and school.... right now we need someone much younger and more high energy than the 54 year old bowden, to be HC.

I still believe that Bowden underachieved at Clemson.... I don't know how you could prove otherwise.

I also don't expect you to give a **** whether i like the guy or not.... just like i don't give a **** that you think he is a good pick for us.

The fact is... we need to take a chance.... and pick someone younger, and who is a "Rising Star" i think that risk taking is something that we should do with the current situation we are in.

I am also not confident that Bowden could make alot of our recruits stay commited... i just dont think he would be a good pick.

you don't want a guy who averaged 7 wins a year over 10 years and never had a losing season? Half of those he won 9 (3 yrs) or 8 (2 yrs) games. Hmmmm.....yeah, you're right, that would suck at MState.

He averaged 7 wins a year with a great recruiting class in the ACC...
He was 5-3 in bowl game appearances
He Is OLD..... I would rather us go get Sherrill back if we are gonna get Bowden.
He DOES COACH IN A WEEEEEEEEK CONFERENCE!!!!! Other coaches we are looking at who ALSO coach in week conferences are coaching teams that are winning 10 games a year..... and they are YOUNGER! that is my main point... i think we should take a risk on a young and upcoming coach because we need to do drastic things to our football program.... i dont think bringing in a coach that averaged 7 wins a year in a ****** conference is a risk..... i think it is DUMB!

Im telling you, he was freaking reviled in Clemson when they cut him loose. He treated his fanbase the same way Croom did, with strange disdain and contempt.

He is going to bring Jeff Bowden with him. He is a proven disaster on the D-1 level, ask FSU.

As far as a great recruiter, I think Dabo had a good deal to do with that also.
