And while they say Al Borges runs a Croom-like WCO he at least knows how to coach his players for it. I think the system doesn't matter nearly as much as the guy coaching it.

to what we are getting. While he is a proven coach with an impressive track record we would have to keep in mind he is a man of little loyalty. As long as he was here we would hve to keep one eye on the so we wouldn't miss him running out of it. That said, were he to spend 4-5 years at MSU they would be quality years that would lift us to a level where when looking for his replacement we wouldn't have to search for someone the ilk of Croom and his inexperienced like.

Aside from having a coach that knows how to win in the SEC-that would be a major benefit. Especially if he were to start referring to them as Mississippi.

That some MSU fans wouldn't want Tubs.

He has proven he can be successful in the SEC, he is a big game coach based upon his record against teams ranked in the top 5, and he can coach.

Before the season, I think most would have put TT in the top 5 of SEC coaches, at least I would have, and though he made a huge mistake with Franklin, I don't think he has forgotten how to coach.

I don't think he is an elite SEC coach (Saban/Meyer) but definitely in the next group (Tub/Spurrier/Richt/Nutt).

He is a proven commodity and if you are going to pay someone 2 million a year, you deserve a proven commodity.

I'm not convinced the Tubbs still has the fire. I have this fear of him turning into the '02-'03 Sherrill. Like I said, I would take the guy and wouldn't complain, but I'd rather give the others a shot first.

And I could give two ***** about what UM fans would say... for the life of me I can't understand the obsession that some of our fan base has with them.

...the man is 52-30 in the conference at Auburn. Won 4 division championships and an SEC title in 10 years, and would've had a national championship if it wasn't for bad luck. To me, I'd take Petersen over him, but nobody else. The Franklin saga ruined their season. The wrong hire was made for their personnel and you can't fire a coordinator mid season and recover. Think back to 2007 and their early struggles with a young O line. After that they pulled it together and went down and beat Florida and gave national champion LSU all they could handle. They were a damn strong football team at the end of 2007. He had one bad year (this year) because he made a bad hire. The man would be a great, proven hire.

He is getting fired for losing.. And for that matter getting fired for an offense that rivaled ours for "terrible." I prefer somebody on the upswing, not a worn out "has been."

I say yes, but only after Patterson also turned us down since I have Peterson and patterson and #1 and #2 in my book.

burned their bridge last year. I would be surprised if he brought him in with him at MSU.

No great expectations at the beginning and he can be a thorn in the side of his former schools. I think that if he were staying at Auburn, the meetings would not have gone into the second day. I feel he wants out and they are trying to agree to the terms at this point.

ETA: But what the hell do I know?

Here is my deal, AU went 5-7 and if you watched any of there games, it was pretty obvious he didn't have that fire that he used to have. I can remember him getting on an assitant coaches ***, but this year it was just oh well golly gee we will get them next time. I think he will have a hard time hiring assitants, his track record speaks for itself.
I wouldn't be dissapointed if we got Tuberville, but I would love to get a younger guy that breaths fire and is ready to get after it and win some games, and I don't see Tuberville being that guy anymore.

New jobs seem to reenergize coaches at times. And Tuberville wouldn't have trouble hiring assistants. That is ridiculous

She hates Tubby. Thinks he's the Anti-Christ and, to quote her, "The ***** of the SEC".....which would make it really funny if we paid him $4.5 mil to come

She said if we hire Tubby, she won't go to a game as long as he's there. She has standards, I have to give her that.

um, no way. I'm from birmingham, and grew up an auburn fan, but I graduated from msu. There's a heavily substantiated rumor that auburn got worse as the year went on due to his wife cheating on him with the contractor he hired to add on to his house in auburn. His mind was on other things. Anyway, I think he'll still be at auburn next year, but with just added pressure to succeed with a successful offensive coordinator who understands the personnel they have and what they should run.

Tubby's personal situation with his unfaithful wife gave him a bye for this season.

he knew that he had no offense, and knew that he was going to have to basically go with a patchwork offense after the Vandy game, and was going to have to start over in the spring as far as offense? It was a lame duck year for them.

That said, I think Auburn would be foolish to fire him at this point. Up until this year, he has won pretty consistently there and it's not like he's holding onto Franklin or anything like that. He is addressing the problem, and he'll probably hire someone decent next year.

Also, it would be weird seeing Tuberville in maroon and white.

Oh yea. kind of like failure to execute. It wasn't quite worded right, he kept meaning to say failure to execute coaching worth a ****.

All the more reason to hire him. It would catch the attention of most of the West, personally. He knows how to win and would catch the attention of everyone if we get him.

It looks like Tubbs has lost the fire. I think Tubberville has been a great coach. He's done great things at Auburn. My problem is he just doesn't seem to have the same fire he used to have. We went through that one time, remember? I don't want to again. Furthermore, the man has struggled to have a consistently good offense at Auburn. What makes any of you think he would be able to fix our offensive woes?

I want someone on the way up, not the way back down. I wouldn't be upset with Tubberville or Bowden, but I really would rather have someone else.

I was counting Peterson and Kelly and using the ranking order from my original list. If we throw out those two and re-rank then Tubbs moves up the list.

evan woodbury (AU beatwriter) doesnt seem to think Tuberville would come here.....thinks he would not have the "entire" fanbase behind him if he were to come

News from Jox94.5 in Bham. Two assistant coaches have said that the entire staff to include Tubs is gone. They are discussing it right now. Where does that leave us?

...but you have lost your ever loving mind. This would be a slam dunk hire. 52-30 SEC record in your division in the last 10 years. 4 division championships. 1 SEC title. 1 undefeated season. No NCAA troubles, ever. Has recruited the area well for many, many years. Beat his arch rival 6 consecutive times. Is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Would rekindle the rivalry with Ole Miss to late 90's form, with no love lost between Bama and Auburn either. I could go on and on and on.

He's had one bad season, made a bad hire and paid for it. Judging him based on one season is absolutely ridiculous, which is what you are doing. They were an excellent football team at the end of 2007 when Cox pulled his head out of his ***.
