First of all, I hope Marquis Spencer is okay. That is really scary.

As far as the on field performance, that was awful. Absolutely dreadful. I knew Steele would give us more man coverage than anyone since LSU, and we could do nothing. The plays were there to be made though. Heath and Spivey both dropped TD passes. Rogers overthrew Griffin on a TD. On the second to last drive, we had Walley for a TD but couldn’t connect.

At the end of the day, I’m not happy with the coaching because we took a step back. But we are flat out not executing. People will blame “the system/scheme,” but the problem is we do not have the play makers right now. Walley is a stud and Griffin/Heath show flashes but that’s it. The scheme is getting one on one matchups and people are open, but we are not executing.

It will get better in time, but that doesn’t make tonight any less frustrating. What is really frustrating is we took a step forward this past month, and it feels like we just took that step right back tonight.

Hey I'm not happy with how we played this season either. And I fully expect some better ball playing next season. But I'm not gonna give them too much hell seeing as how they've gone through the end the season with less players in your local junior high team has. You can call it a cop out but let's see it in another team out there have a winning season with 40 something players

I just don’t see it working out for Leach at MSU.... maybe a 39 year old Leach 20 years ago.... but not now. This team may actually be worse next year but hopefully is able to get a few non conference wins....Maybe the new TV deal with help a new AD find the right coach in 2023, but we are in a really bad mess right now.

If we don’t have the personnel to run the offense, why are we doing it? Same problem three years in a row. You gave to run what your talent dictates and our AD hires 2 coaches that say screw that.

This☝🏻

This team is Croom level bad. If your offense can’t score more than 10, then your defense cannot give up more than 9. Just the way it is. When your offense is this bad then the defense has to step up and get it done. If your defensive players are going to trash talking, they better be able to back it up.

Between the basketball ineptitude at the free throw line and the football ineptitude on offense, the program is at the bottom of the league. Guess they should just grin and take the check from the SEC office and be thankful they aren’t Vanderbilt. Oh that’s right, Vandy does have a couple of CWS championships to hang their hats on.

Will played poorly. OL played poorly. We missed some key opportunities. Defense wore down eventually, the effort is there but our depth issues are definitely showing.

We have two more games (assuming a bowl game), willing to to wait and see what happens, but I feel like it’s important to find a way to not lose out.

Still not ready to make any generalizations about Leach and how this all will end up going though. And I don’t think anything that happens good or bad the next few weeks changes that either.

I disagree. We will definitely be better next year. If we aren’t I will be severely pissed.

We didn’t call enough designed runs tonight. Our two RBs were getting over 6 YPC each, and that would have slowed down the Auburn pass rush too.

Long term, I think his system can absolutely work. We had several TD opportunities that we blew. We are not executing what should be fairly routine stuff right now. When you have a ball go through your hands in the end zone, that is not a scheme failure. When you drop a routine ball inside the 10 yard line, that is not a scheme failure. When you overthrow an open receivers who would easily score, that is not a scheme failure. When we throw two picks instead of throwing the ball away, that is not a scheme failure. Maybe those are partially coaching/preparation failures that need to be addressed but not scheme.

The scheme is getting us the matchups we want, we just cannot 17ing execute right now. This is exactly what we saw against LSU, except we actually connected against this man coverage.

One of the problems with a scheme that throws the ball 60+ times a game is you are going to have more drops and overthrows than a team that throws it 30-40 times a game. This revisionist history **** is going to get old.

Auburn would have scored 60 if Bo Nix didn't overthrow, well everyone, all game. Works both ways.

You don’t hire Mike Leach to run the spread option. If we want to run the air raid, we have to actually run the air raid. We can’t run the spread option until our personnel dictates we can throw the ball around, because then we’re never going to be able to run this offense.

I’m as pissed as anyone about tonight, but we are going to have to go through the growing pains. It happens every time Leach takes a new job in the first year. Leach has been a P5 HC for 19 seasons. His offenses have been bad three times- year 1 at TTU, year 1 at WSU, and now year 1 at MSU. In each of his other 16 seasons, his offenses have been at least solid.

If we are not markedly better in 2021, then I will think about getting on the “this offense cannot work” train.

This is the difference between average and great coaches. Mullen came in and took a 3-9 Croom team and made them immensely better in year 1. He played to their strengths. JoMo tried to turn Fitz into Tom Brady and Leach is facing a prevent defense 90% of the time and hasn’t figured out how to play all against it.

Im already so so so tired of this brand of football.

Did you actually watch how Auburn defended us? Yeah, UGA and OM played a lot of drop 7-8 zone coverage, and we showed improvement. Still not where we need to be, but we made some strides.

Auburn absolutely did not play prevent defense. They were straight man to man coverage most of the night. We actually executed better against Auburn’s “prevent” defense, when they did drop into zone.

That’s what made tonight so frustrating. They gave us exactly what we wanted, and we could not consistently get separation. And when we were open, we’d either overthrow the ball or flat out drop passes.

Please don’t take this personally but I don’t care when you get on or off whatever train. If you can’t see that the entire athletic department has regressed in the last few years, I don’t know what to tell you. Pinning our hopes to a 59 year old coach that will be into his 60’s if he ever does turn this junk around was dumb.

We are not croom level bad. This team has been competitive with less than 50 scholarship players and are relying on true freshmen, walkons, and third stringers all over the field.

I'm frustrated with our lack of execution on the offensive side of the ball, but I think a dose of reality is in order.
