Took my grandson to the opening game; great experience for the youngsters.Gentleman gave us front row, 45 yard line seats. My son is loving it.
Butler looks the part tonight. Two 7 footers in the game together for a big chunk of minutes.Good ball movement. Good passing. The team is shooting 62%.
He is very impressive from the front row. He's as strong as a bull and quick. 6 footer posting up 6'5" players with hops.Ellis is a lot of fun to watch. He can do so many things.
There it is! I knew someone would chime in to rep the board.Radford sucks so take the win with a grain of salt.
Ellis hasn't been in the starting lineup but he will be soon. They started at least 4 guards tonight. The Mongolian played well. Double-double. Nothing flashy, but fundamentally sound. We are solid at guard with Johnson, Ellis, and Knox. Two 7 footers at center, but not sure we’ll always have one on the floor. I’m interested to see how the forwards play. We have a lot of them with varied skill sets. It will be interesting to see how the lineups play out. Guard play should definitely make us more competitive than last year.
I asked my son. Which is tougher to lose, a 27 point halftime lead in college basketball or football. He said football. I'm thinking basketball but I could be suade on this one.Took a lead into halftime. Built on it after halftime. Novel.
Butler will be a good test. I believe they are up next. There it is! I knew someone would chime in to rep the board.

That’s this year’s calling card, fundamentally sound, and Mongolian Mike is the face of that. Ellis is a throwback to Roche around the basket. Kapic seems to have regressed a bit since the opener, but everyone else is improving already solid games as we go.Ellis hasn't been in the starting lineup but he will be soon. I noticed Paris complimented the officiating last night, post game. Probably a good move, to stay on their good side. That’s this year’s calling card, fundamentally sound, and Mongolian Mike is the face of that. Ellis is a throwback to Roche around the basket. What annoys me, and people poo-poo this I know, but it seems every game the officials have a bone to pick with one guy; last night it was Stute. The guy couldn’t play basketball last night without getting whistled and he’s one of the cleanest guys on the team. On the night they had 25 free throws to our 15, and that just wasn’t friggin so.
He clanged one or two early and then backed off which given how we moved inside last night was probably by design. He’s embracing his role as leader and doing well at it.I don't remember Meechie taking a 3 last night. He played in control.
Last night was the first time I have watched Meechie since his return. I remember him being very streaky and forcing a lot of shots. I didn't see that last night.
You know, it was interesting watching Elli and Meechie. Both are natural shooting guards (in my opinion) but both will be PG's if they make it at the next level. He clanged one or two early and then backed off which given how we moved inside last night was probably by design. I have never believed in the notion that teams should have equal foul shots. We are more of a 3 point shooting team. If that is the case, then there are going to be a lot of nights where we get less foul shots.I noticed Paris complimented the officiating last night, post game. Probably a good move, to stay on their good side.
Personally, I thought there were too many whistles in the first 10 minutes but thought it was fine after that. I didn't realize there was a disparity in the number of foul shots.
Nah, not last night. Plenty of no-calls on drives and reach-ins. Touches on the other side.I have never believed in the notion that teams should have equal foul shots. Nah, not last night. Plenty of no-calls on drives and reach-ins. Touches on the other side. My favorite is when a defender puts his hands up and stands there while the offensive guy jumps into the defender. That’s what they were calling on Stute last night.
Yeah, saw that. Had the steal at the end too.You know, it was interesting watching Elli and Meechie. Both are natural shooting guards (in my opinion) but both will be PG's if they make it at the next level.
They rotated playing PG and SG. Mongolian Mike also played some point. Lot's of interchangeable parts on this team.
Polk is a player. They need to keep him around. Smooth shot with a quick release. He's only a freshman. He will be all SEC in a year or two if he sticks around. Very athletic.
I don't know if you watched the end but the arena erupted when Sparkman hit a three. Pretty cool.
Maybe true, but we have posters that argue about foul disparity every game and that is just not how the game works.Nah, not last night. Plenty of no-calls on drives and reach-ins. Touches on the other side.
True.Maybe true, but we have posters that argue about foul disparity every game and that is just not how the game works.
Compared to last year they are the epitome of discipline. We have the nucleus of a decent team if they can jell into a focused unit executing a plan every game. Sometimes they go rogue for a period of time.
Agree on the officiating. The same is true about allowing one guy to get away with anything and no calls.
Great question because neither should happen!I asked my son. Which is tougher to lose, a 27 point halftime lead in college basketball or football. He said football. I'm thinking basketball but I could be suade on this one.
Funny you bring up that game against Cincy. I don't go to a ton of games but I was at the game in the old arena.Great question because neither should happen!
I’d say basketball, however we were on the right side of an improbable comeback when Antonio Grant finished off Cincy in 1998. Down 23 at one point in the 2nd half but can’t remember how many minutes were left.
Had to google and for comparison, the largest halftime deficit to be over come during March Madness says 25 FWIW.
Funny, I remember where I was as well, traveling from Winnsboro to Newberry on 34 listening on the radio!Funny you bring up that game against Cincy. I don't go to a ton of games but I was at the game in the old arena.
