Tonight's game should propel us into the NCAA tournament

...in the first couple of rounds of the N.I.T.

I think this team is improving, & they play hard, but from what I am seeing, I am going to side with Rev. 34% & say this is a N.I.T. team.

Of course, if they beat either UT or UK I will change my tune.

we were too careless with the ball at times tonight. We shouldn't miss 2 dunks, and a layup within a 5 minute span, not to mention some of the stupid passes and losing the dribble several times. I think we will finish 2nd or 3rd in the west, probably 2nd and host NIT games. I just don't think we can compete with the big boys with this lineup. We are missing that one good experienced big man.

Edited to say: I do think if this team can keep improving, and Kodi gets his head out of his *** or Osby becomes a stud, we will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

for a realistic response, I don't see a big dance bid in the offering at this juncture...

if we could have kept it within 10 at baton rouge, then we are looking at a 6-7 seed at best...

I see NIT on the horizon....

too much lurk time on the sheep board?

...soley on what I say in tonight's game @UGA.

I'm not going to knock any MSU team that can go 2-1 in road games after 5 games played.

I'm basing my NIT prediction on this:

1) Unless MSU wins @UT or @UK, they will not have a "good win" to impress the committee.

2) Unless MSU can win @UT or @UK, their RPI will remain in the gutter.

3) The San Diego & UoC losses knocked this team off the bubble barring a great winning streak for the rest of the season or a great winning streak in the SECT.

4) This team has no rebounders. We get outrebounded bad every game. That's a formula for the NIT...not the Big Dance.

...the microwave opinions everybody has on coaches and teams after only one game. When we're looking for coaches, we automatically cross a coach off the list if their team loses, even if it's by 3 points. Or, how EVERY SINGLE GAME IS THE BIGGEST GAME WE'LL EVER HAVE like everybody was going on about last Wednesday's LSU game (for the record, it wasn't....it was a road game, against a very good team, and losses happen in SEC play unless you're Kentucky).

I can hardly wait until everybody starts bitching about only beating West Florida 9-6 and how it'll cost us a chance to host a regional.

I see a #3 seed easy.
We could be the regular season SEC champs and the damn committee would yawn and ask what we did in the non-conference schedule. We lost to every decent team we played.

The NIT is like nailing a fat check. Thumb your nose at it....but admit it, when we were making a run in the NIT a few years ago, it was fun.

we've played in NITs recently, and I barely cared. If we had gone to the Indy Bowl this year I would have been there and been happy as hell.

..the NIT appeals to only those schools participating in it. Just like the Egg Bowl.

And I keep up with every game my team plays in the NIT.

And so does everybody else who posts here, even though they try to score cool points by bashing the NIT.

...You said the NIT is like the Independence Bowl.

Not true; there are some people who are not fans of the Indy Bowl schools who will watch the Indy Bowl.

Then I said the NIT is like the Egg Bowl: The NIT audience is confined to those schools participating (just like the Egg Bowl. Or, to state it more clearly, nobody gives a damn about the Egg Bowl except MSU & OM fans).

Anyway, it's an apples to orange comparision.

If OM makes the NIT this year, you would cling to every game until OM finally loses. Then you would go to the message boards & bash the NIT.

Same with State fans: MSU fans will cling to every game MSU plays in the NIT, until MSU finally loses. Then they will run here & bash the NIT.

Of course, if MSU wins the NIT, you will suddenly see a lot of "I think the NIT is underrated" posts.

...your coolness in this matter is overwhelming me.

Of course, nothing is cooler to the message board sheep than hearing a fan of a school who went to the NIT confess how he didn't watch a single NIT game his school was playing in (maybe watched one, but watching only one is cool too. Anything over one & you're not cool).

it has zero to do with coolness, that is simply where the NIT ranks on the scale of importance. Playing a round of golf or doing something other than watching the NIT is simply more important. It's a nothing tournament, that no one cares about. There is a college basketball tournament that is good to be in. But it's not the NIT.

...to those who actually pull for their team to win it, instead of opting out of watching it, like you due to your coolness.

All I am saying is the vast majority the fans of a given school will pull for their team to win the NIT if their team is relegated to playing in the NIT.

I just hope you realize your take on the NIT represents a tiny minority of any fanbase than likes to brag on a message board that you are too cool to watch your team play in the NIT because of "the issue of irrelevance."

I think the funniest part of this is: You actually think the Mississippi fanbase (or at least the segment of the OM fanbase you represent) should hold the NIT in arrogant disdain.

This from a fan of a school that has a worst basketball history than MSU has football history.

When Ole Miss makes the NIT, the whole freakin' Oxford campus should shut down for a day of celebration.

But you can get to the Indy Bowl (or a comparable bowl) with a 6-6/7-5 record most years. That's not really much better than the 16-14 or so it usually takes to get to the NIT. People may watch the Indy Bowl, but few will even remember it a week later (unless it snows). My point was, for MSU and UM fans, we should never feel like we're too good for the Indy Bowl or the NIT. Because there have been plenty of years for both of that we'd have gladly traded for an Indy Bowl or an NIT.

The NIT can be a big deal. Especially if you have a young team, the NIT gives you a chance to practice for longer and it also gives the youngsters some tournament experience. So to me, NIT> Indy Bowl. It seems like everyone is kinda taking a "wait til next year" approach with this team. I think doing well in the NIT would be a good way to jump start next year. In some circumstances I think it is better for a team to go deep in the NIT than to lose in the first round of the big dance (Easy, I'm not saying that I would prefer this).

NIT or NCAA, and the NIT does give postseason experience. Your right Liverdawg, making a run in the NIT with a young team could be a lot better of a confidence builder for postseason play than them making the NCAA and getting their asses whooped in the first round. Next year is where it's at with this team, and I am for whatever will give us the best chance at AT LEAST making the sweet 16 next year.
