Too cute?

So here I sit trying to figure out what's happened to our offense. I think two words sum it up: "too cute".

We're sacrificing our strengths and our playcalling by putting too much commitment on spreading the ball around and also on running a fast tempo offense. Instead of putting in the right set for a short yardage running play, we no-huddle with 4 wides and throw the ball on 3rd and 1. Instead of going with our bread and butter that is Relf running zone read and/or option plays, we're platooning RBs and trying to get the ball to 6-7 different receivers.

I feel like we're managing the game to try making our offense look a certain way rather than just to win football games.

I love the Wing T, but I think now we have gone overboard with it, and I see too much indecision of the part of Relf. I saw no speed options tonight, which is a strength of ours. I saw no bubble screens, which can be a strength because our WRs block well. Perkins needs some opportunities to get wide. Relf is no damn dropback passer. Roll him out and get Bumphis, Heavens and Berry open on some curls on the sideline. That kind of stuff we can do. But 5 step dropping Relf back and having him chunk it down the field is stupid.

He has to shake up the playbook on situations where we shouldn't do anything out of the norm. That 3rd and 1 interception was about the most retarded thing I have seen under Mullen. We just ran for it on 4th and 1 and then now it is 3rd and 1. Well obviously if we werent scared to go for it the previous time then why do we not stick to the ground game this time? We got two chances to get that 1 yard but yet we heave it down field for the INT.

that short kick to the sidelines that ended up going out of bounds after the TD was a massive game changer. they got it on the 40 and took the momentum. it's that type of call that shows mullen is head of the special teams too. we all liked the onsides kick last week, and it did look really ballsy, but mess that one up and we call it cute again. if he is over our special teams i don't see why having a great return man catching the ball when we kick it off is a huge deal. shouldn't the head coach be confidentthat we can cover that guy if he is over the special teams?
