Trip advisor rankings are nothing to use to determine much at all . I travel to Cozumel pretty often , been there a dozen times or more . At one point they had a take out burrito place that was no better than Chipotle listed at # 2 .. and Coz' has 3 dozen or more GREAT restaurants .

If you want a decent beach, go to the Caribbean. Magens Bay, St Thomas. Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos. Trunk Bay Beach, St Johns.

Only one I agree with in Florida is Siesta Key.

I think Navarre Beach is pretty awesome...should be on list IMO.

As a Kentuckian, I say Floridians should pay their child support and stop doing meth.
Unfortunately we are a magnet for yankees who run from the law in their yankee states and come down here and hide. Some are even Kentuckians. So yes meth and child support is a huge problem for us but thankfully we have sheriffs down here that will hammer them when caught. Our prison are full of them and some overdose so that is the end of that

As a Floridian let me tell you a little secret. We know where the real "hidden gem" beaches are and would never go to any of the 7 mentioned in this article. They are for tourist only.
Isn't the point of this article to help tourists find a beach to go to? Locals and tourists aren't looking for the same thing. That's ok, it doesn't mean someone is right and someone else is wrong.

Also we pay your state income taxes for you so don't complain about us.

Yes you are right. It is for out of state tourist and all of the beaches are great for that. It is a little more expensive than off the beaten path but if you live here you don't need to pay $500.00 a night for a room on Clearwater Beach. Besides when out of state tourist visit they pay our taxes. That is why Florida does not need an income tax. The Yanks pay it for us and we are grateful. Especially when they go back home.

Only things bad about Siesta Key are parking and having to lug your gear through sand that's probably the length of a couple of football fields. That was a workout.

By the way, for anyone that hasn't been there here is what I'm talking about.

Better have a cooler with big wheels on it or be prepared to carry it. Compare that to Panama City Beach which is probably a quarter of that much sand.

I refuse to believe Florida has prisons. I assume it is basically just what Australia used to be for the United Kingdom. We just send our vagabonds and derelicts down there and see what happens.

I do appreciate Florida having no state tax. The government probably wisely assumed they wouldn't be able to collect it any way so just said to hell with it and built a moat around the statehouse or something.

That 12-13 mile drive from Navarre to Pensacola Beach is about as pristine as it gets. We stayed at The Pearl condo when it first opened (around 98), twice a year for about the first 10 years it was open. Uncle lives in gulf breeze. Play Tiger Pointe every time I am down there.

Anyone complaining about a beach shouldn't go. A) Sand ******* sucks and I hate it B ) If you cant deal with people being around you at beach well you're doing it wrong.

P.S hate the beach and would much rather get drunk on vacation in AC

You really can’t go wrong with most any beach on the gulf coast of FL. Unless there is red tide around which as been more frequent the last few years. Siesta key has always been one of the best but they seem get hit hard with red tide sometimes.

Some hidden gems

Vanderbilt beach
Bonita Beach
Lovers Key
Keeywadin Island

Breaking at 20 - 25' or so last time I was in Kapalua, Maui. Oahu is obviously great for waves also.

A lasting memory of mine is after traveling 10 hours to Costa Rica, falling asleep in a hammock to the sound of crashing waves only to be awakened by mango's hitting the roof of our cabin.

We got hit by the red tide when we went to the Siesta Key area last summer. It sucked when it happened. If you have allergies watch out. That stuff hit me harder than seasonal allergies up here in Kentucky. On one beach we went to we found a bunch of dead fish on the shore. One was a puffer fish. They need to find a way to neutralize that red algae.

Rosemary Beach in the Panhandle at the very end of 30A is the bomb, unfortunately, it used to be small and sleepy, has grown a lot and gotten a hell of a lot more expensive. Camp Creek is the best golf course in Florida I have ever played, used to be $75 or so, recently went back private, had to call my pro at my club to get on and is now $250 or so, which is above my price of pain to play golf.

No mention of the beach at Martins Fork Lake?

Agree 100% on Martins Fork. Nothing beats waking up, heading to Cumberland for a good cold case of beer, heading back, grabbing a couple Rax roast beefs and heading to the beach. When I think peaceful summer days, it's kicking back on the MFL beach watching all of the trolling motor boats moving around.

A close second would be the Laurel Lake sPILLway beach in Corbin.
