Don't know if this has been discussed before, but a comment by C34 a little earlier got me thinking. What are the top 10 jobs in college football? Here is what I came up with:

1. Notre Dame
2. Texas
3. Alabama
4. USC
5. Florida
6. Ohio State
7. Michigan
8. Nebraska
9. Penn State
10. Oklahoma

Honorable Mentions: LSU, Miami, Georgia

My list is based off of Prestige/ Reputation. Monetary Resources, Facilities, Fan Base, and Program Success (Past and Recent)

Nebraska will NEVER be back to where they were and does not have the potential to be.

Notre Dame at least has a chance to return to prominence.

many other jobs I'd take before that one. Out of the last six or seven coaches only one has actually been successful. Miles has been riding Saban's coattails, and it's obvious that's falling off now.

whoever is the coach at LSU should be able to get plenty of good in state players without much of a problem. He gets a huge fanbase, which helps even if it is a bunch of coonasses, and of course the coach makes a few million a year.

bama in the top 3...they have as much money and tradition as anybody, a rabid fanbase and an administration that has proven itself time and time again to let the football program do "whatever" it takes to win. that combo makes it a coaches dream.

my top 5 would be
1. tx
2. fla
3.bama
4. usc
5. ohio st

after that, IMO, its just swapping numbers. penn st, lsu, etc. all top jobs. i'd put ND well down. they haven't been relevant in 15-20 yrs. its a good gig but not IMO in the top 10 by any stretch.

yet Nebraska just came off a 10 win season with a should have win over Texas and delivering an ***-kicking in the Holiday Bowl. They return a stout defense and will probably have another shot at winnign the big 12 this year before they bolt. And Notre Dame is where on the radar?

I can remember when people thought Oklahoma was done.

maybe because lsu always beats us no matter howbad they are I'm thinking too highly of their potential. History doesn't agree with me, but if they have a good coach they are usually going to be ranked in the top 10.

If you look at the resources they've had throughout their history, there's no reason that LSU shouldn't be the most dominant football team in SEC history instead of Alabama. Alabama doesn't produce as many NFL players as Louisiana does, and they never have. Plus, Alabama has always had to share those players with Auburn. Who has LSU ever had to share Louisiana's NFL players with? And nobody has had better fan support than they have. There's no reason they shouldn't have a lot more SEC titles and national titles than they have.

only one coach in a damn long time has done what you would think should be easy. I don't know why exactly that is, but maybe it's not as easy as people think. I hope so at least.

BCS bowls. It's impossible to predict NCs. NU will be a top 15 team next year and for the future in the new Big 10 (12).

I think that it's just that those Cajuns are some crazy mother-17-ers that can't get anything right.

They're only behind TX, CA, FL in putting number D1 players on the field. I'd probably extend it to all three major sports too and call them the most underachieving SEC school.

I'd go UGA, if not simply for the school itself, town, campus, etc. Now that Saban's in the west, it's not as automatic a decision as it used to be competitively either.
