his name is Scott Stricklin. Byrne was doing about everything right. Stricklin was a part of that. Stricklin is Byrne's choice for his successor. Stricklin is a Bulldog (meaning he is unlikely to bolt after 2 years of success). Stricklin has been trained in the right way to do it.
And he is a progressive, innovative young guy like Byrne. I think that's what we need.

Or would the best available AD trump such connections?

I think Byrne was a helluva AD. He did more in less time than most. I know he got his Masters at MSU, but I wouldn't consider him a "State" guy. Would you take another Byrne, or go with someone with a stronger MSU pedigree in hopes he would last longer?

I know on the academic of a university schools dont like to hire their own PhD students, because its considered "academic inbreeding". I kind of have the same feelings towards our athletic department. I think a big part of Byrne's success was brining in fresh ideas - forign

I think that if someone has ties to the University, it's a bonus, but it's not a prerequisite. The bonus is that they already now how the fans are and what the situaiton is with a lot of the athletic programs coming in. It's a little bit of an advantage, but it's not a deal breaker or maker.

I just want the best possible AD that we can get.

It would help the guys who had the Byrne's Dojo. They could just mark out Byrne's name and insert Strickland.

we will here the two from the Sun Belt , Angelos at Florida International and Villareal at North Texas. We will here Scott Strickland from within. I think Rob Mullens is another name Veazey threw out who is an associate AD at Kentucky.
