Right now who are your top 3 players in 2A?
Some notable names:
Kam McDowell Tarboro
Trashawn Ruffin North Duplin
Tyler Powell Tarboro

Great list. I don’t think anyone could argue with this list. Obviously Kam gets a ton of flowers for us, and rightfully so, but Tyler is soooo good on defense. Oh, and he’s the QB. Again, great list!Right now who are your top 3 players in 2A?

For sure that’s not even my list just some notable names. All three great players, Tyler will be a great defensive players for someoneGreat list. I don’t think anyone could argue with this list. Nice! I know limited info on the west teams… good to knowI would add Keyvon Propst from Starmount to the list. There's a lot of good players in the area but I think many would feel he's the best linebacker in our area.
Looking forward to seeing him later in the year against our VikingsRuffin has to be at or near the top
Good player - but McDowell is the obvious #1 in the state in 2A. He’s a D1 talent on both sides of the ball.Ruffin has to be at or near the top
I expect some D1 offers to start rolling in for TylerGood player - but McDowell is the obvious #1 in the state in 2A. He’s a D1 talent on both sides of the ball.
It's wild he hasn't gotten any yet. He had over 20 sacks last year. That alone should have got some eyeballs his directionI expect some D1 offers to start rolling in for Tyler
Potential and best are two different conversations. I’m not discrediting Ruffin—he’s a very good player. I just don’t think there’s another player in 2A who impacts the game on both sides of the ball as much as McDowell.Ruffin had offers from Alabama, South Carolina and pretty much every power 5 school would take him. He has the most potential of any 2A player. I could argue he isnt as productive right now as McDowell but his long term prospects are off the charts
Do you think his size is the reason he doesnt have P5 offers?Potential and best are two different conversations. I’m not discrediting Ruffin—he’s a very good player. I just don’t think there’s another player in 2A who impacts the game on both sides of the ball as much as McDowell.
I’m not saying he’s Todd Gurley, but I’ve been to almost every Tarboro game over the past 15 years, and McDowell is second only to Todd on my list of guys who can completely take over a game at any moment. I’ve seen him do it countless times over the last four years.
If I had to guess, id say his size is the reason he hasn’t seen p5 offers. As Tarvikes has said, he can completely take over a game. It’s been great to watch him the last several yearsDo you think his size is the reason he doesnt have P5 offers?
I have heard that Duke is interested in himIt's wild he hasn't gotten any yet. He had over 20 sacks last year. That alone should have got some eyeballs his direction
I’m really not sure—I’m not gonna pretend to know what college recruiters are looking for. All I can do is speak on what I’ve seen from him in a Tarboro uniform.Do you think his size is the reason he doesnt have P5 offers?
With the transfer portal, he can play well at Elon and get picked up by a bigger school. Elon will have Cason Jones from Mountain Heritage too. They might be pretty good.I’m really not sure—I’m not gonna pretend to know what college recruiters are looking for. All I can do is speak on what I’ve seen from him in a Tarboro uniform.
That said, I do know he’s committed to Elon. And I’m not sure how it all works in this new era of college sports, but if he keeps playing the way he has been, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some bigger programs come calling.
Agreed. I think now more than ever it’s important to go somewhere you know you’ll actually get on the field. Too many kids go to those bigger programs, get lost in the shuffle, and end up spending four years watching instead of playing. With the transfer portal, he can play well at Elon and get picked up by a bigger school. It's wild as close as Tarboro is to ECU, they haven't offered him. Duke would be a huge pick up though.I have heard that Duke is interested in him
Don’t get me started on ECU. I’m an ECU grad and a Pirate Club member, but it makes me so frustrated how I feel they treat Tarboro. It's wild as close as Tarboro is to ECU, they haven't offered him. Duke would be a huge pick up though.
Tarboro has had too much talent over the years not to be on their radar. I commented on something from them not that long ago, and said recruit Tarboro. I’m sure it’ll be ignored lol. With that said, if Kam keeps having 200 yard games, he’s going to be hard to ignore .Don’t get me started on ECU. This past offseason Blake Harrell and some of the other coaches were posting visits to all these ENC schools over the course of a week. They highlighted a bunch of programs that aren’t even that good, and to my knowledge they never came to Tarboro. In fact, a couple of those trips they had to ride right through Tarboro and still didn’t stop.
Not that I carry any weight, but I even sent an email about it lol.
That's wild. I know when Mike Houston was there Tarboro would go to some camps at ECU in the summer. I guess since he got fired they cut ties with Tarboro to. It's really frustrating cause we've had some kids that should have gotten looked at by them. We have two right now for sure.Don’t get me started on ECU.
