Surprised no one mentioned Dale Earnhardt
He died and NASCAR began a slow death
His death impacted his sport more than anybody’s impacted their sport

Not as important as many histrionic people
No order
JFK
Lincoln
Alexander the Great
Many others
A sad decade + in the sport until safer barriers were installed on every track. In addition to Dale Sr, Lost Neil Bonnett, Kenny Irwin, Adam Petty, John Nemecheck, Clifford Allison. Nearly lost Ernie Irvan, Steve Park & Jerry Nadeau. Lost Davey Allison to a helicopter crash and Alan Kulwicki plane crash. Lost a lot in that sport during those years.

Other sports stars, Jose Fernandez, Reggie White, Walter Payton, Darryl Kile, Tractor Traylor, Yordana Ventura, Junior Seau.

unless you are put to death.. isnt every death an untimely death?
hmmm . . . interesting concept. One could say that Franz Ferdinand was "put" to death by Gavrilo Princip (may have that name slightly wrong), but then considering how no one death has shaped the course of history for the past 100 years the question of "timeliness" is, at a minimum, reasonable.
