I never was a big fan of war movies, but We Were Soldiers, Heartbreak Ridge, and Full Metal Jacket should get some mentions, IMO.

Any war flicks that people played soccer on base or flew drones?

It's still a war film.

I guess but far too often I see it put on lists like these while failing to see the point the film was trying to make. Technically, Paths to Glory is a war film but no one lists or mistakes it like Full Metal Jacket.

Besides, the correct answer is The Dirty Dozen.

A lot of war movies are anti war in the sense that war is a horrible thing. Apocalypse now especially

I stony know if AN is as anti-war. That film uses the insanity and surrealness of the Vietnam War to document man's descent into madness. I don't think it makes the sweeping moral judgements on war that other films make.

The Great Escape and Bridge on the River Kwai are my favorites. That's an easy one. Pvt. Ryan and The Deer Hunter are in the next tier and then I guess Platoon.

That's a good point, although it doesn't shine a positive light on war either. The goal is to reveal the casualties of war, which are amplified in the film. The casualties being the physchological state of combat soldiers

Patton was and still is a classic. Saw it twice last week on TV.
