Been waiting for two years to see the film and it didn't disappoint. Loved the cinematography, which should get Oscar consideration because it made me feel like I was up in the air with the characters. Definitely one of the better films I've seen in a while, but Tom Cruise doesn't make bad movies. He really puts everything he has into them.

Just saw the movie…recommend iMax as the action and sound take it up a notch. Cruise is subdued enough to make him tolerable, despite the strong dislike I’ve developed for him over the years.

Saw it tonight. Loved it. The key was keeping the audience aware of every detail during their mission. I don’t find planes entertaining. I did tonight.

As I said earlier, I loved the film, but… Mild spoiler ahead….

Anyone else notice their mission was almost like the attack on the Death Star in Star Wars? “We can’t attack this base with heavy weapons so let’s use small fighters. Maneuver down this trench while evading their small fighters, hit a target 3 meters wide, and try to fly out before you’re blown up with the target” I’m not knocking it since Star Wars is one of my favorites - just saying, lol!

Indeed….. Towards the end there I was almost expecting a “Use the Force” voiceover…..

This didn't happen tho in the one playing domestically. Japanese and Taiwan flags are there.

So either it just happened over there or China didn't play it all.

Also it never says who the enemy is, which whatever, but I assumed that was why.
Thought they mentioned Iran at the very beginning….. but yeah after that they were pretty vague.

Yeah, pretty sure they mentioned Iran. Doubt any army, let alone Iran, is going to have better jets than us, but it’s ok. It IS just a movie and they felt they needed to build more drama. It’s fine.

Just a movie for sure, but Iran theoretically could be gifted Su-57s from Russia and definitely still has F-14s we have the Shah back in the day…and I think I remember reading they still had some that were functional but it can’t be many at this point and by functional I mean barely.

It was really really good. I wish they could have used a real f-14(it wasn't real). it was a great homage to the original, yet moved the story forward in a tangible way. The way they used val Kilmer's iceman was absolutely perfect. The action was good, though not truly realistic as per training regulations. It felt good though. I just wonder how many actors passed out during filming lol. Might actually see it again!

A very enjoyable flick w/o the extra cheese that TG had. Great action, scenery, and story line.

When did "escapist authoritarian porn for white dads" become a BAD thing?

Maybe going to a movie for entertainment isn't the point anymore, and our free time should be spent on enlightenment, self-deprecation, and atonement for being born a man, and you know, white.

How dare you enjoy yourselves. The nerve...

Darryl: Andy made me his consigliere. Which means Assistant Regional Manager. I guess he thought I'd be into The Godfather 'cause I'm black. Wrong! I'm into The Godfather 'cause I'm a cinephile. I like Scarface 'cause I'm black.

is a freaking awesome movie. Go see it in the theater on the biggest screen possible. Enjoy feeling the entire theater rumble, and enjoy the anxiety from the g forces. And enjoy Jennifer Connelly because my god...

[SLIGHT SPOILERS!!!!!]

Saw it last weekend. Amazing movie. Different feel - a little more grim, but with good reason. The plot is more serious, with a specific mission that drives the plot, whereas the first movie was basically a big party with a mission sprung on the partiers at the end. Decent acting, amazing visuals and action scenes, good callbacks to the original movie, and nice symmetry with the planes and the storylines. Cruise was a stud and there is even a cameo with Iceman.

The only thing I missed was the gravitas that Viper and Jester added. They brought so much to that movie, and they didn't really have anyone like them. I thought Jon Hamm's character was a bit of a weasel and too much of a cardboard cutout.

I watched last night and it reminded me why my 15 year old self wanted to be a fighter pilot after watching the first one....because fighter pilots are so cool.

As a side note I know he has been sick but Val Kilmer doesn't even look like himself.

Enjoyed it. Like the first one, too much "fluff" in between the flight scenes to build the storylines but the flying action makes up for it. Go to YouTube and watch how they made the movie. Cruise is one major weirdo but cannot deny he is a badass when it comes to being able to fly and perform his own stunts.

Just rewatched. If any piece of you would like to see it again, don’t deny yourself. Life is short. Just go if money isn’t a concern. I liked it at least as much the second viewing if not more. The cheesy parts were still cheesy, but the action was just as good if not better. Caught a few things I missed the first time. This viewing solidifies my original 9/10 ranking.

If you have a chance to see with a big fan of the original who has yet to see it that’s really fun. I got a big kick out of him seeing the first time.

Lastly, not that it matters, but I stand corrected from an earlier post where I thought they said the enemy was Iranian. They said “uranium.” The enemy was left ambiguous I’m pretty sure.

I noticed they definitely avoided ever naming a country as an enemy. That was really clever.

Have landed on a carrier twice, and launched once. Let me just say it is the ultimate high.
Not sure how naval aviators do it on the regular.

Naval aviators>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Air Force pilots
Looks like an absolute rush. I wanted to go navy but kinda can't fly being paralyzed lol

Finally watched it this afternoon and yes, it truly was awesome and maybe my favorite experience I've had in a theater. If you like/love the original, then you must see this one in the cinema. Had a few really moving scenes and that last 45 minutes will have you on the edge of your seat with the tense action.

Also, kudos to the ones here that were actually able to discuss the movie and not get into the political banter. Guess it is just unavoidable these days sadly.
