I clicked your link and was impressed at the brewers represented there. Anchor, Smithwick's, New Castle, Leinenkugal are all some of my favorites.

in Oregon and Washington so a lot to choose from. They have bands. It is a 3 day event twice a year.

The more people are exposed to craft beers the quicker we'll be able to get more flavorful beers in MS. This starts by attending these festivals, supporting your local brewery, and letting your representatives in Jackson know that the status quo is no good.

Should be a lot of fun. Just curious, are there many giveaways (coupons, free stuff, etc.) at events such as this one?

attending beer festivals in other states, you usually get a nice 4 oz sampling glass and possible a shirt or something. Individual brewers may give out stickers and that sort of thing but if you are looking to score "free" take home beer, it is usually not done. To my knowledge, is illegal in MS to give away or sell beer for less than it costs brew. But if stickers and shirts are your thing then you may get lucky.

One piece of advice I would pass along is this: sample as many beers that you've never heard of/tried as you can (both by brewer and style). You can buy Abita, Sam Adams and Spaten just about anywhere so why go straight for that when there are many other new brews to be had. Plus, if you don't like a beer, you haven't lost anything but a 2 oz sample.

Years ago at the art musem, they would have "Art on Tap" with 50-60 beers to sample, it was catered, and a band played on the patio. It was great. They stopped having it. I got excited whenI got theIt's DowndownNewsletter with the first flyer for the Top of the Hops.

The Downtown Jackson Newsletter, you can sign up for it here:

Speaking of top shelf beer, it wasextremely disappointing that the Beau Rivage didn't bring back the Coast Brewing Co. and you could never buy any of their beer outside the casino. To me, Hurrican Bock was the best, just ahead of the Steelhead Stout and Ruby Red Lager. Even the lighter beer was awesome, the Biloxi Blonde.

There's no way this can end poorly, I swear.

Also, free BBQ at Hal N Mals after the Beer fest with your ticket stub.

MS beer laws are antiquated. it'll be fun no doubt, as no beer fest can suck, but it will be limited compared to others. AL just changed their beer laws, allowing higher alcohol content. our slogan should be "Welcome to Mississippi! Set your clock back 10 Years!"

I do remember seeing him outside some port o potties at a St. Patrick's Day event paying $5 to outgoing patrons for their "21 and over" wrist bands and meticulously stretching them over their fists.

You know with all the muggings, murders, & break-ins, bunch of Rankin and Madison little bitches.
Too bad there won't be any really good beer b/c Mississippi law sucks. No Abita Jockamo IPA, SOS,or New Belgium beers.
Until Rise your Pints ante's up and hires a lobbyists, nothing will ever getdone in the Mississippi Legislature.

LinusHall, of Vicksburg will be there with his Yazoo Brewhttp://www.yazoobrew.com/
Be sure to try his Dos Perros and Pale Ale.

Also Vicksburg native Jamie Price will be opening up the Grayton Beach Brewery on 30A in FL in the near future.</p>
