#1 Loyola vs #13 Maine South
Prediction: Loyola - 35 Maine South - 20
Comments: Loyola - best program in the state, not debatable either. Maine South - They're back but not on the level of Loyola, not yet at least.

#4 Glenbard North vs #9 Waubonsie Valley
Prediction: Glenbard North - 28 Waubonsie Valley - 7
Spread: Glenbard North -12

#8 Brother Rice vs #25 Crete-Monee
Prediction: Brother Rice - 42 Crete-Monee - 20
Comments: 8A All Boys Catholic School vs a 6A public suburban school, almost unfair.
Spread: Brother Rice -17

#10 Prairie Ridge vs #30 Huntley
Prediction: Prairie Ridge - 34 Huntley - 14
Spread: Prairie Ridge -15

#21 Batavia vs #22 Libertyville
Prediction: Batavia - 20 Libertyville - 14

Other notable match ups
#11 Nequa Valley vs Naperville Central

#16 Bolingbrooks vs Bishop MacNamara
#20 Montini vs Lake Zurich
#24 Phillips vs Richards
#28 St. Laurence vs Immaculate Conception

Random Hidden Gem Game of the Week
York vs Leyden
Leyden is the ultimate sleeper this year. York will be a lot better than I thought, this is a great sleeper match up.

I have to challenge that BR- CM game. In today's Sun Times Top 25, CM is 6 and BR is 7. CM is coming off as a runner up in 6A and their head coach John Konecki is a BR alum who would love to defeat his alma mater. CM lost to BR big last year at their house and will want to right that one. BR is coming off a huge, emotional win over a big neighborhood rival - the let down game could be this weekend. Remember, BR is in 8A partly due to the multiplier. They have 800 boys. CM total enrollment per the IHSA is 1625 so assuming the split is roughy 50/50, they have the same number of boys despite being in two different classes. BR may well win, but I would be shocked if it were a blowout.

Sandbag alert...

I'm kidding. CM is great and will contend for 6A this year, I just think Rice Beats them this week. They won't blow them out, It'll be 28-20 in the 4th and Rice will score 2TD's to cover the spread.

I think Libertyville (at home) beats Batavia in a low scoring game.

Good points. John is a good man whose father just died. Credit to all the CM boys who showed up to the funeral for John's father. You are absolutely right that Konecki will have CM charged up for this game.

Crete gets Rice on 4 days to after playing a rival.

Been discussed before, but still amazes me that up until 20 years ago, teams used to have to play a very difficult 2nd round matchup only 2-3 days after their first round games. I'm still bitter 27 years later and blame that scheduling in part for SR's massive gaffe against CVS in 89.

Phillips vs Richards is a huge game...one of those teams is going to start 0-2.

I love the StL vs IC game, could be GOTW but that has to go to Loyola vs Maine South, just has to.

Marist vs Simeon is another huge game where one of those teams is going to start 0-2.

Does B-Mac have a shot against Da Brook? What if Brook starts 0-2?

Based on last week, I would say Bishop Mac does not have much of a shot of beating the Brook. I would say Bishop Mac has a much better shot of starting 0-2

Anyone willing to give Rich Central @ St. Rita a nod for an interesting Week 2 pairing? Gutsy scheduling for the former in the quest for respect. Regarding the latter, going into Providence game in Week 3 at 0-2 would not be too good.

It's not local, but ESL v CBC St. Louis will be very telling: Either Flyer is THAT GOOD, or Provi just sucks this year.

BTW, the ESL/CBC tilt is the final of three "Border War" games that will be played at Clyde C. Jordan Memorial Stadium on Saturday. Admission for all games is $10 - you can come and go (reentry with the stub) and the food will be incredible!

this is more like it. liking Bronco projected more as a U dawg...
LZ, not as good as MS...not even close. Bronco, licking wounds, and will have some bite...not losing home opener. they better have their act together though.

Anyone going to any of these games? I'll be at York/Leyden....Getting either Mr. Beef or Gene & Jude's before the game.

The top ranked games lived up to the hype this week. 3 of them being decided by 3 points or less. I nailed the Brother Rice/CM spread, -17...nailed it on the head. Batavia/LVille was definitely a PK and they proved me right. Waubonsie & Maine South proved me wrong. Prairie Ridge/Huntley I was close.
