Because we get Saturday football, large crowds, kids making spectacular plays with the season on the line and someone with tears of joy on one sideline while someone has tears knowing they won't ever play this great game again!

Edgy:

I would agree with the win or go home aspect along with upsets you never saw coming.

But gee whiz. No senior night? I had two sons who were both 4 year starters in high school football and one of the favorite nights for my wife and I was senior night. It gave the kids who never got to play, a chance...even if it was just for a couple of series. Those kids went through all the practices too. We really liked it. I think it's a little early to be Scrooge don't you?

No homecoming? Isn't that a staple of high school football? I can't imagine high school football without a homecoming. It gets a lot of people involved who might not be otherwise and it's a great idea.

I thought talking negatively about coaches isn't looked upon kindly here.

But I will give you a pass. Halloween is just around the corner! Hahaha!

Playoff football brings more people out to games. It is fun to see signs in small towns wishing the high school team good luck in the playoffs. Everything is turned up a notch. And what Newt said.

From here on... Nothing else matters!
Everything is settled on the field by kids putting their heart and soul into it.

If it's time for our annual farewell . . .

A special thanks to all the adults who make high school football the greatest game still allowed in America.
The mothers working the concessions, gate and crowd control as well as making that emergency run to school so that your son has the right jersey or socks to wear - thank you.
All the fathers who counsel their sons outside of practice, keeping spirits up and your son from quitting when it gets frustrating - thank you.

And to all the boys who got the opportunity to play high school football - giving us a chance to see you in action - playing with spirit that's not seen at other levels - thank you.

Whether your team went 9-0 or 0-9 or anywhere in between, may the lessons you've learned and demonstrated on the field: fortitude, perseverance, humility, generosity ... may they serve you for the rest of your life.

So to all the Eagles and Wildcats and Panthers and Warriors and Bulldogs and Tigers and Indians and Knights and Trojans and Cardinals and Spartans and Vikings and Raiders who have or will be playing their last game ... thanks for giving us a great show, it's been a blast to watch you play.

Dr. I'm not saying do away with them....I've been to senior night for 9 straight weeks and almost as many homecomings....just love the fact that games set to start at 7PM generally start at 7PM is all

Now that hits the nail on the head. 7:00 means 7:00 not 7:20

Hopefully you can stop by the Montini tent before the 6A game, if Prairie Ridge doesn't blow them up in the semis.

Well said. I get a tear in my eye every time I see my son run onto the field. Not many know the time and effort that goes into being a football player. It is truly an honor to represent your school in that jersey. Enjoy every minute of it.

Nazareth always does Senior Day the first game of the year. I like that it isn't the last game when you could be fighting for a playoff spot and fighting to get seniors their last potential snap.

This was sent to me - apparently originated with staff of LSU - sums it up pretty well.

Love the game.
Love the game for the pure joy of accomplishment.
Love the game for everything it can teach you about yourself.
Love the game for the feeling of belonging to a group endeavoring to do its best.
Love the game for being involved on a team whose members can't wait to see you do your best.
Love the game for the challenges of working harder than you ever have at something, and then harder than that.
Love the game because it takes all team members to give it life.
Love the game because at its best, the game tradition will include your contributions.
Love the game because you belong to a long line of fine athletes who have loved it. It is now your legacy.
Love the game so much that you will pass on your love of the game to another athlete who has seen your dedication, your work, your challenges, your triumphs......and then that athlete will, because of you, LOVE THE GAME.

That nervous feeling you get wondering how your team will play. Even though you haven't strapped on the equipment in over 20 years.
Living and dying with every play.
Kings Challenge/JCHILL stock game

Worst part
Knowing this team will never play again together and for most will never put on the equipment again
No more football for another year
Washing uniforms for a week.

Very well said. It goes so fast. Way too fast. I remember how sad I was when I saw my youngest played his last high school game. He took it a lot better than I did.

I know exactly how you feel redmen these playoffs are the last time I will see my son on the field as well. Takes you back to all of those practices and games that you drove them to over the years. It goes by really fast.

The common bond of a community, especially small communities where virtually everyone from town is in the stands for Friday night/Saturday afternoon and for a couple of hours only one thing matters to everyone there.

Agree with both of you having lived through both I see both sides. If you have kids involved you love it. If you don't get the game started.

We all agree HS Football is the best and nothing better than win or go home!

Love it!
