Got this idea from one of the other threads that was discussing how the same 20 teams are in contention for playoffs/state title year in and year out with a couple of exceptions each year that come out of nowhere.

Probably way too early for this as lots can happen in a year (transfers in, transfers out, etc etc) but for an early read..........

What teams do you think will be in the hunt for a state title in their classification next year? Teams, number of starters coming back, Soph team that will be juniors, etc etc. ??

All I know about PR is that Sampson is back and just with that one piece of knowledge - yes they have to be one of the favorites in 6A and a chance to go "back to back".

After this year I don't think you need to know any more than that,...

While I don't know if they'll be 12-0 and/or heading into the semi-finals for the third straight year, Palatine should be in the hunt again.

Smaller schools, I would have to think that Herscher and Coal City will be pretty stout next year. Phillips should be loaded again, as well as IC... I think Peotone will surprise some people, and I think Geneseo and Kaneland will be back to their old selves next year.

GW brings back
All-State WR - Pierce
WR/TE - Reifel
RB - Diver
RB - Thomas
RB - Cox
T - Fenske
And adds a very dynamic QB in Hollensbe. Tough kid with great instincts and big wheels

Offense will have more options available to them then they have had in years. Full stable of returning runners and receivers and a QB that will put his head down and get key yards.

On defense
DL - Winters (soph this year)
DL - Krebsbach
LB - Bong
LB - Scheller
CB - Howard
CB - Campanella

Defense needs to find some key freshman and sophomores to step up next year. Losing key LB leadership this year, but don't be surprised in Hetlet builds a new crop of LBs next year.

Watch out for Marist high school. They are going to have a very good team once again. Skill position players will be outstanding especially at receiver.

ICCP should be terrific again.
They lose Rowell, Sutton and a couple lineman, but return a ton of speed at the skill positions and most importantly their dual threat QB.
They will be a force in 3A.

Not sure about Coal City but Herscher returns a lot and should be very good. I don't know about state finals good, but solid team nonetheless.

With that talent if they don't win 3A or go deep in 4A next year I'll be surprised.

I'm going to go out on a limb (well....not much of one) and predict Rochester will win 4A.

Maybe. The Cox twins are gone now. Without them, Rochester might well have lost to Johnsburg and certainly would have lost to Althoff.

Marist loses a lot of high end talent as well, especially on OL and at LB. That Marist Rice game week 1 should be very interesting. Both teams lose a lot of talent but have a lot returning and coming up from the lower levels as well.

Marist have 2 freshmen that are going to be really good. Both dressed for varsity the receiver and Lb.

Oswego will definitely make some noise next season. 5 returning starters on defense plus some kids that had some substantial minutes. Best DT in the state Noah Shannon returning, plus one of the best corner duos in the state Shodipo and Bell also returning with a nice MLB Millard coming back too. Offense has 4 returning starters with some guys that saw some field time also. The sophomore class is very good winning conference, and that RB Coleman is one to watch especially. 6'2 200 as a soph and growing. Chmielinski and Fomby are receivers coming back with the 2 corners possibly playing both ways next year, and the qb Olsen will be back too. The offensive line will be of concern with 1 returning starter. Other than that this Oswego team will be a major threat in 8a with a high chance to go deep in the playoffs. Dangerous sleeper team on the rise.

I like BBCHS (Bradley-Bourbonnais). Great coaching staff and a Junior class coming back that was well represented conference winning undefeated season. All State QB (Burris) and an offensive line that will be strong in supporting a running attack that will surprise. It needs to be mentioned that there will be some big Senior losses but as with every year in recent history... next man up.
