2002 3 4 17 5

The brightest spot of Torbush's career is his stint at UNC with Mac Brown, where he posted top defenses 95-97.

I don't think A&Ms problems was all Torbush though as their defense hasn't exactly improved since his departure. (2008 ouch!)

Texas A&M with somebody else as Def cor.

2006 46 55 44 44
2007 83 65 92 50
2008 113 114 93 114

The fact is that the game is different than in the mid-ninties, I sure hope Torbush has learned what not to do over the last several years. I'm still ansy about this hire but hopeful.</p>

What I think about Torbush is that he's a good DC, a less-than-average HC and a not-so-good recruiter. He did great things with all the talent they had at UNC as a DC, was a .500 HC there after Mack left and was pretty unsuccessful at A&M because they didn't have much talent and he was chasing around OU, UT, TT, OSU, Mizzou, KU and all the new Big 12 spread offenses.

I like the hire from the standpoint that Torbush has been a HC before and DC before at big programs - so he should be able to get the job done without much oversight. And, he already has good recruiters on his defensive staff, so that's a bonus.

His stint at A&M is a bit worrisome though.

he's been pretty adamant about it but also pretty clear that its 100% hope. He is hoping that since L. Campbell is gone that Torbush is LB coach and the last spot is filled by the DC. But its clear that Tommy Thigpen has been interviewed for the last spot and its extremely doubtful he'd come in as DC so that leaves only Torbush to be DC.

is because we've been burned by the likes of Ron Cooper and Woody McCorvey. But there's a big difference here- both Cooper and McCorvey were never successful anywhere. Torbush has been successful as a DC everywhere except A&M. The thing about A&M though is they have a ton of problems in ALL facets of the game not just defense. This makes me think that the problem was a lot deeper than Torbush.

Heck, let's give him a shot and see what happens, if it doesn't work out, fire him and hire someone else. All we really need is someone competent on defense and I think we will be OK.

going to Carson Newman as a position coach. We would certainly be a big step up from that.

Why has he not been annouced as DC...straight up?

Also Torbush stated that Mullen called him out of the blue....& that he was just glad to get back into the game( more or less)...

I think it's a very good guess that he is the backup plan.

But I'd be glad to give him a year, either way.

SOMEbody, probably Mullen himself, has been telling Veazey what these new coaches positions are expected to be. We think we know who the co-coordinators are, which one is in charge of passing, which one is in charge of running, etc. As soon as those people were hired, it was reported what they were "expected" to be. I don't remember Veazey saying the same about Torbush. Just food for thought.
