I have doubted him for a while..this is the same coach whos defense at Texas A&M gave up 77 to Oklahoma. We can do better.

What is your source to this? I doubt Gill has hired any coaches just yet.

He's got a freaking link. Do you think he's the writer?

Questions is "Who do we get as a replacement"????

Will we lose anyone else? Some talk of Hevesy going to Louisville with Strong- I hope not ....

Can't say I'm disappointed. Plus this will give us something to talk about other than the senseless Stans bashing that typically goes on this time of the year.

with 3-4 former HC on his staff.

I for one, would like to see Torbush go. I will admit that he wasn't that bad, but at the same time he wasn't that good either. More than anything, I would like to see someone that is a little bit more agressive as far as blitzing, and maybe a little bit less zone. I'm not going to go into three man rushes.

As far as I'm concerned, we had three pretty good linebackers, and for the most part, we wasted them because we wouldn't let them blitz as much. We had a weakness in the secondary, and by only rushing three guys, we didn't help them out very much. And we had a lot of confusion and finger pointing in the secondary, which tells me that we probabyl should have simplified some things.

To me, Torbush was not as bad as Ron Cooper, and he was not as good as JLD in his prime. To me, he was similar to Bill Clay.

I for one, would like another JLD in his prime, with more zone of course. I know some people will talk about how he could only succeed with good players- but really, that's true for everyone. And I do not know how or why he all of a sudden he pared his defense down to three plays. But I want the JLD type of guy that was doing all kinds of crazy stuff like forcing UK to call a TO becuase he had nine DB's on the field. I want an aggressive, blitzing type defense with lots of hard hitting. As much fun as Dan's offense was this year, I also remember how much fun JLD's defense was despite Jackie insistence that we run the ball 60 times a game. I remember how much fun it was to watch our defense play in 98 and 99 and want to get that back at MSU, to go with our new offense. I want people to fear us because they know that we are going to do some crazy things on offense and defense, and not want to play us. If they beat us, they're going to have to earn it.

For some reason, burial mound or what have you, it seems like there's some rule that we can not have a good offense and defense at the same time. Obviously, I don't see why we can't, and I see this as an opportunity to hire someone young and creative and aggressive just like Dan and the rest of the offensive staff. Torbush to me is old school conservative blah defense. I hope this is true, and that we can get us a good defensive coordinator.

(not saying I agree with it, because I thought he did a decent job). Torbush was told to find other employment. Mullen allowed him to shop around without the whole "just fired" thing on his resume'

I would throw a BOAT LOAD of money at Dick Bumpas at TCU.

He is a former Broyles Award winner, his defenses are always very good. He has ties to the SEC as I believe he was at Arkansas at one point in time. I know TCU is a very good program, but we could offer him a chance to coach in a BCS conference in the SEC.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm sure Dan has coached with the guy he'll hire next somewhere in the past. I would think it would be someone that was at Notre Dame, Utah, or maybe a Florida guy. I doubt he tries to get someone he doesn't know unless DCs start sending Dan their resumes. How attractive of a job is DC at MSU? Hell I would want Ellis Johnson back if I could have anyone.

Anyone think it would be possible to get JLD back? Dan does affiliate with past MSU coaches-Jackie and Rocky.

My choices in order: JLD, Johnson, Bumpas. Byrne is no *****....he'll pay a DC. He wouldn't have let Johnson go to S.Carolina.

plus choking yourself with a tux tie is not a good combination.

But this weekend doesn't stress me out at all. I am distressed that I don't get to see Ballet Magnificant this year. I'm depressed.

simply would not recruit. It takes players to play. It takes more than showing up in August.

Your DC had better be willing to recruit and recruit hard.
