...that the biggest news in town is controversy over light up peacocks. I guess it's better than hearing about folks gettin' got every night like I do here in Memphis, but 17ing hell suburbanites, find something interesting to get worked up about. Sounds like this is almost as big as the exposed AC unit on the roof of the Burger King back when it was built. Apparently, Queen Mary doesn't like **** on her roofs...

Queen Mary is a damn tyrant and that is no joke.

She has personally driving by residential construction and halted construction because she felt a driveway belonged on the other side of the house. The construction permit was suspended until the design was changed. WTF.

She is the #1 reason I won't live in Madison. If they had a normal mayor, I might live there.

Hate all the benign design though. Queen Mary's preference for minimalist, inconspicuous business signage is a serious headwind to small businesses. I know citizens there who'd never heard of some businesses there because they'd never noticed their existence. And personally, stuff is just hard to find there. Buildings look alike. Storefronts look alike. Signage is made to blend in and not be noticed. Hate that.

but the majority of Madison has no idea unless they have to deal with her. She is terrible for business. One example is and very few people know thatRenaissancewas originally planned for Madison, but the development group had a terrible experience with her with Wal-Mart and said screw this and theypersuadedBaptist to swap spots and moved to Ridgeland. i could go on and on, but she's probably got someone researching who i am now; so i'm logging out and changing my username.

Plus it gets the State attention in the National media for being one of the best places to raise a family.

Do you think a CEO of a fortune 500 company is a pushover? Nope. Quit bitching.

I agree with you that she is a flake sometimes and can really be a roadblock to progress when it comes to business but I have to give her credit for very low crime, sustaining home values and quality of life. I have had conversations with her before and she can be a pretty condescending individual and the sad part is she doesn't even realize it.

Does she have a crystal ball she uses to manipulate human behavior and housing markets?

When you keep apartments and trailer parks at away, you typically have a lower amount of ******** inhabitants. Higher property taxeskeep thetrash away, too. She keeps the police force well maintained and staffed.

The building codes and strict by laws for neighborhoods protect home values.

You choose to live there because it's so nice and has the best, well... everything. And then ***** about the reason it's that way.

If all of you hate it so much, why not just move to Mound Bayou. Hey.. no covenants!

now is 2400 sq ft. I believe. We are trying to hold up the minimums in the Gluckstadt/Germantown area as well. It is the key along with all the other points you just made.

Madison is so damned wonderful, I got the hell out as fast as I could. Couldn't take the dictatorial ********.

That town is 17ing creepy. Closest thing to Stepford I've ever seen in real life.

Its a great place to live. Great city council, great police department and the crime is low. Shame on queen Mary. She should know that Jackson does it right after all every child's parent wants to send his/her child to Provine and "Gem" Hill instead of Madison. I constantly dream of sending my child to a Jackson school, but I don't know if they could keep up with his or her peers. Such fast learners! That Madison school district has alot to learn from all those Jackson schools. All those clean nice apartments in Jackson with no drug activity and no transient losers. Jackson is such a nice town and I have no idea why Queen Mary doesn't want to be like Jackson. Its just beyond me. Go Peacocks!

I have no problem believing your Renaissance story. The "terrible experience with her" you refer to is undoubtedly that they didn't want to pay money under the table to get their building plans approved so they could start construction. Same deal happened with Wal-Mart. But they finally realized even having to payoff the local officials, they would still make a killing in Madison.

Her husband was investigated by the feds a while back and they found that he and a Madison county supervisor swindled a Texas widow out of some land, buying it cheap when the land was in a development plan and worth a lot more. The best part was that in the end, the feds let them keep the money. Why? Because they had already spent it so they didn't have it anymore. Pays to have friends in high places.

banning trailer parks and apartment complexes or by setting minimum square footage requirements. But if those regulations are ever lifted, there will be some disgruntled home-owners in the Madison area. For this reason it is doubtful they will ever be lifted, but do not mistake government interference applying artificial upward pressure with immunity from housing bubbles.

Someone please explain to me what is so wonderful about "maintaining property values" if it includes living under an authoritarian, dictatorial regime that prevents you from doing whatever the hell you want with your own property?

in Ridgeland and you would be surprised at some of the stories ive heard about the Swingers out in Reunion. The people who would sit down and talk about it would literally point out other couples in the restaurant that they had "partied" with. Blew my mind at how many people the couple would point out.<div>threewaysontherangeku</div>

You can do everything mentioned above; no apartments, no trailer parks, good standard of living, good police, etc without being autocratic and so unfriendly to business. it would take more time than i have to explain, but if any of you ever tried to open a business in Madison, you would understand. And another thing the earlier comment about the developers paying money is silly. That is just not how high end retail development operates. You may slip someone a $20 to get your septic system approved but trying to give Mary some money, oralludingto that, would probably get you shot on the spot. She's not crooked just unfriendly to business and has too much power for her own good and ours.

All the Republicans move to their paradise then still ***** (even though no godless liberals have done anything to 17up their paradise ).

"earlier comment about the developers paying money is silly"

Ask Wal-Mart how silly it was. Around 200,000 times silly.

"She's not crooked"

Ask the feds that investigated her and her husband that question.

which lead to great schools, great roads, great law enforcement/safety, great quality of life. If you want pink flamingos in your front yard you need to live somewhere else and that is fine, don't wear us out for wanting to live the way we want to live.

If you live in Madison and are bitching about it, why the hell didn't you move to Flowood or Ridgeland instead? You knew what Madison was like before you moved there. If you don't live in Madison and are bitching about it, why should you care?

For the record, I think Mary Hawkins is both the best thing and the worst thing that's ever happened to Madison. Overall, I like it and I'm not complaining. Don't know if the story about the Renaissanse originially being planned for Madison is true or not, but personally I'm glad it wound up in Ridgeland.

Individual liberties.

If you want to live in an isolated, insulated wealthy "Republican" cocoon, more power to you. But let's not kid ourselves. There's nothing Republican about an administration that stifles individual liberties for the sake of the common good. That's Collectivism, and it pisses me off when I see people who call themselves Republicans run that **** through.

We fought a war against the British 235 years ago to get them to quit telling us what to do, and damned if we're not surrendering all those individual liberties that we won back to oppressive regimes in places like Madison. When a local government determines the color of paint on the interior of your business, things have gone too far.

If your the type person who can't stomach a Christmas decoration on someones home for the last 30 days of the year then Madison is the perfect place for you. And it just so happens that those types of people are what I can't stomach. That's why I choose to live in Jackson. Plus I get to get a new car each year courtesy of my insurance company.

Bad for business? Good. I don't want any more businesses in Madison. The more business you have, the more people. The more people, the lower quality of life. I'm still pissed off about all the new development on GrandView Blvd. That has lowered my quality of life due to even more traffic. Most people moved to Madison to have great schools, and have nice things. We pay higher taxes and don't care.

They say, money can't buy happiness... Well that's just wrong. I pay out the *** to live in Madison, and it makes me very happy. I have previously lived in Jackson, Byram, Clinton. As long as I can afford it, I will probably keep living here.

Btw, I've also lived in Starkville, but it's not fair to compare my experiences in Starkville to anywhere else. Starkville is kinda like an Hattori Hanzo sword.
