You deserve better than losing in the semis of the playoffs and following it up with the current #2 team in the nation.
I don't deserve anything. Franklin doesn't know I exist. This is not about deserving anything. This is about James Franklin being much, much better in big games. Results matter and that means getting it done on the biggest stages. He is a good coach, good CEO for the program. He is not an elite coach. It is not unreasonable to expect he wins more big games. I can't count Boise State and SMU as big games. They just were not. Yes, they were playoff games but not big games like beating OSU or Michigan or Oregon. Our talent level is so far superior to a Boise or SMU that you can't categorize them as big games. The Oregon game is HUGE. I want James to win as much as anyone and I sincerely hope he delivers so he can throw it back in the face of his critics like me.

Yep. They are every where. Just pick one.
That’s right. Who‘s the guaranteed winner who will be available? The Indiana coach surprises me. He’s good, but who knew? The chance of finding someone like him seems slim. Indiana got a good coach.

So, you don’t deserve better, you deserve much, much better. Got it.

Even well past his peak, JVP was better - including multiple Big10 Championships, top-3 ranking, and road wins over ranked O$U and Michigan teams.
He also lost to Toledo.

Had a losing record vs OSU and Michigan.

He's hot right now. Does anyone remember when Dabo Swinney knew how to coach football?
Winning is hard.

I'm sure this is just all one big misunderstanding. There is a segment of the PSU fanbase that is under the mistaken impression that PSU is and has historically been a top 5 program. When actually PSU is more like a 6-10 program.
All time wins, all time win percentage, national championships.....any measure ....but don't confuse some with the facts.

And that’s very good. That puts PSU in the conversation for championships with some regularity. There have been long stretches of years where PSU has been a top 5 program.

Totally agree. I think Dabo can win again. Should PSU move on from Coach Franklin? That’s absurd. I don’t think anyone in the admin even considers it.
Some fans are hostages to "the narrative." It's different for those with boots on the ground.

Absolutely! If you are #8 historically, there will be seasons above and below that. My issue is with those fans who mistakenly think PSU has resources that other universities don't possess.

I really want him to succeed as well. I like him. But at the end of the day, I want Penn State to win. I want to go into these big games with competitive anxiety but I’ve gotten to the point where I go into them with dread, expecting them to find a way to lose. He’s got to show that he can win a big game. Hopefully Saturday is it.

I'm a big JoePa fan and a big defender of his legacy.

1) He clearly stayed too long
2) The dark years were inexcusable
3) Almost miraculously he averaged almost 10 wins per year and won 2 BiG titles during his final 6+ years.

My defense of Joe isn't an indictment of Franklin. They're different eras with completely different rules. I don't think Joe could have survived in an era where things became more about money and less about academics and preparing kids for life after football.

Joe took over a team that finished 6-4 in 1964 and 5-5 in 1966.. The "stadium" held 30,000 fans and the players lived in dorms (Findlay Commons). He didn't start with anything close to a powerhouse.

I agree that Franklin has done a good job at PSU but I disagree that he started in Death Valley. He inherited a team that was depleted by sanctions but with great infr

And had trouble with Glenn Mason’s Minnesota teams and Kirk Ferentz’s Iowa teams.
Losing record to Iowa.

A guaranteed winner who is 0-2 vs teams that finished in the top 10.. Lost to OSU and ND.

Isn't you goal to beat the top 5? Should probably find a coach who actually beats the top 5.

Who do you have in mind? Who's available? Who is the "coach who actually beats the top 5“? If that coach is already beating the top 5, why would they leave their current position?

Also, you're not being true to my quote regarding my use of the words "guaranteed winner." You're not using those words as I did.

There is no coach that has an incredible record against true "Top 5" teams (i.e., teams that finish the season in top 5 - counting wins against teams ranked top 5 at time of play is dumb as a team like Clemson proves this year). Ryan Day took over duhO$U in 2019 - going into last year, Day was 0-5 against the true "Top 5" from 2019 thru 2023. Day was 4-1 against the true Top 5 last year... 1-1 against Oregon and 1-0 against PSU, Texas and ND, so still only 4-6 against the true Top 5 in his career.

PSU has probably played more true Top 5 teams during the regular season over CJF's tenure than any team in the nation (additionally, counting CJF's first 2 years is ridiculous as he inherited a depleted roster that had only a handful of scholarship OL due to FLO's nonsense). Between 2014 and last year, PSU played true Top 5 teams 14 times (i.e., teams who really finished Top 5 at the end of the season) - all but 2 of those during their regular season schedule.

Just utter nonsense that there are all these coaches who have incredible records against true Top 5 opponents - there aren't.

So if Franklin ends up leaving, is there any reason we couldn’t go get Cignetti away from Indiana?

Stop being myopic. Penn State isn't the only school with "resources." Nor with message board geniuses.
I will agree that Florida is a definite possibility. I believe this is his last year here. He is in a great spot. Even if fired (which will never happen) he laughs in your face with a 50 million dollar parting gift to dry his "tears."
But the more likely situation is the following: His reps renegotiated his bonus structure last season. But did not request an extension. Reason?
His buyout to leave is only 1 million after this season. That, along with how PSU has been allocating $....retention vs. recruiting tells me something is up. Next year "WE" can give "somebody else" a chance and they will win big games......all 2 of them. LOL
I really could care less if Franklin can laugh with zero accountability because of Sandy. I wish him the best at Florida. Time for someone else to get a bite at the apple and net some results . If they fail too? Try again.
