moving operations from the NUMMI plant in California for a while now. As soon as GM pulled out of the deal Toyota started looking at how to shut it down. It is the only unionized plant Toyota was involved in and there was just no sense in paying those wages if they weren't splitting the costs with GM. Great news for Mississippi and yet another blow for the UAW (which given the number of members who have lost jobs to foreign countries and the non-union South I can't believe there hasn't been a revolt and dissolution of the union, if their purpose is to protect the autoworker's job then they have failed on an epic scale). There has been some talk of re-tooling for hybrids, plug-in hybrids, all electric and even hydrogen. Anyone heard anything about that?
