Branden Wentzel lost by a major 11-0.
Isn’t he a 2 time state champ?
1x champ, 2x finalist.

The guy who best him also majored him a couple weeks ago -- FR Brandt Harer from Montgomery, brother of returning state champ Conner.

Today (Feb. 25) all the PSU verbals in action won in their early match except AJ Fricchione, who dropped a 3-2 UTB match in the semifinals. I've updated the action for the weekend of Feb. 23, 24, & 25 post as best as I can, but in some instances I just have who won (no score) or don't have who they'll face in the next round. I'll fill the info in throughout the day, but have to go out this evening, so I may be a few hours late with some of the results.

Edit: I have all the results as of 2:15 pm EST.

Edit: All results updated through 3:50 pm EST. We have a National Prep Champ, and a 3rd place finisher, in the 2 tournaments that have concluded

Edit: Everything updated through 9:30 pm EST. All the results are in except the WIAA Div. 1 285 Final

From Yianni's web site:

His parents are Ilias Diakomihalis and Gina Collura. Yianni has three brothers, Gregory Diakomihalis, Elijah Diakomihalis, and Micah Collura.

Tom,
Thank you for all these details.

One can certainly begin to visualize what the future could look like reviewing these details. Tyler Kasak in the Haines Train Lane will also factor into the mix at some point. Yikes, lots of talent.

Braeden Davis's team, Dundee, won the MHSAA Division 3 Team Title this past weekend. I didn't include that in the Tracking, as I feel the Tracking thread should focus on competitions leading toward individual State (or Prep) Championships. That said, here's a tweet that includes a short interview with Braeden:

This is unfortunate, because now Perry will be on the same side of the bracket at states as Beca's Kollin Rath.

Rath is an attack machine (M2 kid, go figure) and has about a dozen wins this year over high-end national opponents. Including Perry, Manville, and (up a weight) Church.

Tom, thanks for all the details and updates; much appreciated.

However, appears that the last item on your list above should be NJ Regional 3rd (Fricchione), vice NY.

As a resident of New York State, want to avoid any confusion with Jersey. ;)

Wentzel is in a unique situation, where this weekend will have little bearing on his states. And it's very good news -- he'll have an ideal path to the state finals.

The clear-cut top 3 in PA AA are Wentzel, Harer, and Botero. Harer and Botero are locked into the same side at Hershey.

Botero will win SE. He beat the only contender 11-1 this year. And he'll be the 1 seed.

Wentzel and Harer will meet in the NE finals. If Wentzel wins, he'll be the 2 seed. If Harer wins, he'll be the 4 seed because freshmen get no "prestige points" for last year's postseason.

Since PIAA separates regional finalists, Wentzel will be opposite both until the state finals.

Dalton Perry (Central Mountain HS, PA - 2025 Verbal)
1. He's wrestling 139
2. Next up is the PIAA North West AAA Regionals, on Feb. 24 & 25
3. In R1, he pinned David Kunselman (Punxsutawney) @ 0:30
4. In R2 (Quarters), he pinned Santiago Bradbury (Westinghouse) @ 2:59
5. In R3 (Semis), he DEC Connor Saylor (Hickory), 3-1
6. In the Final, he lost by DEC to Pierson Manville (State College), 3-0 (a repeat of last weekend's District Final)
Tom is the expectation that Pierson will focus on Greco like his brother?

I’ve always assumed so but haven’t followed closely on his plans going forward?

Hopefully, @El_Jefe can answer your question. If not, perhaps somebody else that has some connections with State College HS or the Manville family. I've never spoken with Pierson, and as such really don't know his future plans. Like his brothers, he seems to participate in FS, Greco, and Folk at Fargo, and competes for the US National teams. If I recall correctly, he finished 2nd last year at the USA Greco finals for Cadet (or whatever his age group was). I don't recall how he did, or if he competed, in the USA FS team competition. That's probably available on the USA Wrestling web site -- I don't have a lot of free time this afternoon to investigate it.

I don't know Pierson's plans either. They've been closely held, much like Carson's were.

Speaking of which, Carson attended Penn Tech in Williamsport and did not wrestle there. So it's conceivable that Pierson also drops the sport. Not saying he will, only that the Manville family does things differently.

Very interesting! Thanks for the insight, I thought it strange there wasn’t any sort of info out there but I guess it’s just the norm for that crew!

It's not just him -- a lot of prominent recruits aren't publicizing their school lists. We find out their other finalists in the commitment articles.

Other guys publish a huge list of schools, then commit without publicly narrowing. Davis and Welsh both did this -- had a list of 10 schools, then suddenly it was PSU and anOSU.

The results for March 2nd have been added to the "Action the weekend of March 3 & 4:" post in this thread.

For March 3rd action, nothing yet for Wentzel. Davis & Barr won their R1 matches in Michigan States. AJ Fricchione lost in the New Jersey State quarters, so he's now in consolations. We'll update throughout the day.

I think I have fully updated the "Action the weekend of March 3 & 4:" post in this thread. It can be a challenge in some of these tournaments to figure out from afar what their daily schedule is.

If wrestling is completed, we have:

- 2 guys wrestling in Michigan State Finals on Saturday
- 1 guy wrestling in a Pennsylvania Regional semifinal on Saturday

AJ Fricchione has bounced out of the NJ State Championships. The seeding must have been off in the 215 weight class, as the #4 and the #7 seed are slated to wrestle on Saturday in the final.

The "Action the weekend of March 3 & 4:" post in this thread has been partially updated. The two verbals in action in Michigan have completed their tournament, and are state champions.

It appears that the PIAA North East AA Regional finals have not yet taken place (or been reported). Branden Wentzel is slated to wrestle in that, against the same foe that he faced in the Sectional and District final.

Edit: It's now fully updated:

Quick Summary of PSU verbals in action this weekend:

- 2 Michigan State Champions
- 1 PIAA Regional 2nd place
- 1 New Jersey State Championship DNP

I won't have time to update the OP with this weekend's results for at least a day.

Next weekend is the final postseason action for PSU verbals. There will be 3 PSU verbals in action at the PIAA (Pennsylvania) State Championships
